Vancouver

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Welcome to VANDUG!

The Vancouver Drupal Users Group (VanDUG) is the local meeting place for Greater Vancouver people interested in Drupal. We were formerly known as the Vancouver League of Drupalers, but that's a long story.

The group mostly hangs out on Slack at https://vandug.slack.com/. We also post our meetings on Meetup.com at https://www.meetup.com/Vancouver-Drupal-Users-Group. All are welcome, it's listed as a private group to keep out the griefers.

We've been holding semi-regular virtual meetings during COVID-19.

simplenews and roles

Anyone have an idea on using Rules or Actions to add a role to a user when they subscribe to simplenews? I'm using simplenews actions module, but add role doesn't seem to be an option there, or in the Rules config.

November 2011 Drupal Meetup: A Virtual Cemetery using Drupal

Start:
2011-11-24 18:30 - 20:30 America/Vancouver
Organizers:
Event type:
User group meeting

This is a case study on using Drupal to add dynamic content with map displays as a component to an already extensively developed static and flash web site presented by Izzy at Clove Media.

It began as a request from an artist for assistance specifically with his "DEAD AND BURIED" project related to the old Woodlands Cemetery in New Westminster BC, where the grave markers had been removed.

The artist's project already included work surveying the cemetery grounds to locate the burial plots and through searching public archives identifying which plots each of more than 3,000 individuals were buried in. The work included various artworks that were exhibited in galleries and a memorial ceremony by a family that had been documented. A static and flash web site was largely developed to add this project to the artist's other projects already on the web.

Now, the challenge was how to display and make available the data on the over 3,000 individuals buried so that users and visitors could see this and allow them to add their own comments.

Clearly a dynamic CMS web site with mapping capabilities such as Google maps was needed but this was beyond the current experience of the artist's team, although they were familiar with Google Maps as seen on many web sites.

It was decided to focus on the needed functionality and later integration with the static site.

This presentation will provide details on how this was done using Drupal.
