Start:
2008-05-18 09:00 - 17:00 Australia/Sydney
Event type:
User group meeting

For everyone still interested in getting together for some Drupal fun, we have arranged for a small get together where we can have some presentations, discussions, and general hacking fest. We only have room for about 40 people, so sign up quickly (on this page).

When
We will have a full day of fun on Sunday, May 18th, 2008. We will open up for registration/greetings at 9:00am and actually get things kicked off at around 9:30ish and likely finish around 5pm. We will probably move to a nearby pub to continue the socializing and for dinner/drinks.

Where
We have secured a computer room at the University of Sydney.

Faculty of Pharmacy
Pharmacy Building (A15)
University of Sydney
Sydney, NSW, 2006
listed at location E15 in the map of the Camperdown Campus
and a google map of the area and the building

What
We will have a fairly informal structure, probably somewhat like a barcamp. Which means we will try to organize most things on the day and will need your involvement. If you would like to make a presentation or have a topic for discussion, please post it as a comment to this post. We will take these presentations first when we are making the schedule on the day.

We do not have any catering for this event, and I've been advised that food outlets on campus will be closed so we will have a break to allow people to walk to something near by for lunch, but I would encourage people to bring some snacks and water.

There will be some computers available in the room, but we encourage people to bring their laptops as well. Internet access will be available, with details given out on the day.

How Much $$?
Its $0 - FREE!
The venue has been donated for free (Thanks to the Faculty of Pharmacy @ USyd) and there won't be any catered food or other schwag given out, so it only costs for people to show up and our time as organizers. If everyone can be respectful and keep things clean, hopefully we can get invited back.

Anything Else?
If there are any special needs, please email me ASAP. There should be handicap access to the building, and potentially hearing impaired services available, but I will need to confirm anything. Special dietary needs should be self catered, though if we organize any snacks it would be helpful to know of any limitations/allergies.

Presenters should preferably bring their own computer, otherwise make sure to bring it on a usb stick in a standard format. Please email me if you have any questions.

You can contact myself via the contact form and at 0431-947-331 or Jim Woulfe at webct_AT_pharm_usyd_edu_au

We will have signs to help direct people, but don't feel bad if you get lost and need to call.

What about parking?

waddles's picture

Where do I find parking? How much does it cost?

Alternatively, is Redfern station a sensible walking distance away and am I likely to get mugged walking back after 5pm?

Parking and public transport

woulfe@drupal.org's picture

Hello all

Parking on site costs $24 / day, and there's lots of it.

On Sundays there is usually plenty of free parking on Parramatta Road near the bus stops shown on this map.

Parking shouldn't be a problem in Arundel Street, either, on the other side of the footbridge.

Redfern Station is twenty minutes' walk from here. If you're coming by public transport, a bus from Railway Square (Central Station) is the best bet. Even on Sundays you rarely have to wait more than five minutes.

The bus numbers are shown on the map - ask the driver to tell you when you get to the footbridge.

Cheers

Jim

New Drupalier taking on project

Russell_Griffiths's picture

I'm a new Drupalier, acting as 'techo' on a project to take over hosting of a Drupal Powered website.
The site (www.coachnet.org) is currently hosted in USA, and the intent is to move the hosting and management to Australia.

Starting by reading the Drupal6 Manual, and attending gatherings of fellow Drupaliers

Hoping to find out how easy this will all be .. and to hear some stories about similar works

Looking forward to Sunday 18th at the Uni.

I'm leading development on a project for my company, the first project for us using Drupal. I'd like to bring along two of my fellow developers to the event. Do they need to RSVP separately or can I just RSVP for all three of us?

Thanks for hosting such a wonderful event. Sounds like great fun, and I'm very much looking forward to meeting you all!

Cheers,

Hey Meitar,

I'm using the subscriptions on this page to track numbers, so it would be best if all three of you signed up. It might not make a difference in the end, but since we have limited space I don't want to leave someone out.

Presentation suggestion

mark matuschka's picture

Alan D. and I could do an informal presentation of a Drupal site we have put together for demo at CeBIT.

It demonstrates the flexibility and usability of Drupal, concentrating on multimedia. Running mainly from just one page, users can create a user account, add a photo to a gallery, create a blog entry or podcast, upload a video, vote in a poll and use a tag cloud to access categorised content. It looks and works very differently to a "normal" Drupal site.

Presentation/Discussion

rcross's picture

I will give a short presentation about a few things that fall under the heading of "Drupal in Australia", and will hopefully have some discussion about certain aspects.

aaargh I can't make it!

I'm moving house this weekend - but have fun :) (unless you'd rather move boxes...? :P)

Sorry to hear

rcross's picture

Hey Laurel,

Sorry to hear that, but if you want to stop by for just part of the day that would be cool. Otherwise, you can also come hang out with some Drupal people at the CeBIT expo and see some of the talks in the Open CeBIT Theatre. That's next week Tues - Thurs. See the other post about it.

woulfe@drupal.org's picture

Hi all

If you're arriving early or late for Sunday's session, you may need to call Ryan or myself to let you in. The numbers will be available at the door, but you might like to note Ryan's number 0431-947-331 just in case.

See you on Sunday

Jim
