Libraries
This group is for libraries - public, academic, school, law, what-have-you. It is not about code libraries.
Ask questions and/or tell us what your library or organization is up to.
Please add your library to our Drupal libraries roster

LITA Drupal Interest Group Meeting
It is time to start planning for the Drupal Interest Group meeting to take place at ALA Midwinter in Boston. The meeting is scheduled for Saturday, January 16, 2010 from 4:00-5:30. I don't have a room assignment yet.
In the past, the discussion has been pretty open and focussed on projects people are working on. So, if you have a project you would like to share or a topic you would like to discuss, let me know.

Library DrupalCamp
Following up on my note to the Drupal4lib list, I propose that we have a library DrupalCamp. Presuming that this would be a one day event, I suggest Thursday, June 24th (ish) immediately proceeding ALA Annual in Washington, DC. Of course, it could be two days.
Formal or unconference?
If anyone is interested in getting involved or, preferably, taking charge of this, please step forward.
Informal Drupal meeting at ILA in Peoria
For any Illinois library folks who will be at ILA in Peoria next week …
Since I haven’t heard of any Drupal-related goings-on there, I’m organizing an informal (i.e., not part of the conference program, no formal presentation) “lets talk about Drupal” meeting.
When: Wednesday, October 7, 2:00pm
Where: A Table Talk table in the exhibit hall (the “official” Table Talk sessions are not scheduled for that time)
We can chat about our projects, useful modules we’ve found, etc.
I’ll bring chocolate.
Automated Readers Advisory - Taxonomy or Node Reference
I was wondering if anyone had any experience building something for automating readers advisory. My librarians are calling it "read-a-likes." The idea is that there is a list of authors. Each author would link to their page with links to other similar authors. You can see the example below.
If you like David Baldacci, then try:
William Bernhardt
Stephen J. Cannell
Linda Fairstein
Vince Flynn
James Grippando
John Grisham
Brad Meltzer
Kyle Mills
Robert Tanenbaum
Stuart Woods (Will Lee Series)
A further example can be found here.

Chicagoland Drupal4Lib BoF (9/25/2009) - Report
We had a great turn-out with about 20 librarians representing a good cross-section of both institutions and areas in and around Chicago. The discussion was so engaging that I totally forgot to take a picture!
SCUG Meetup this Thursday, September 3
It's that time again, folks. Drupal Southern Colorado Users Group (SCUG) will host its monthly meetup at East Library this Thursday September 3, from 6:30 - 9 p.m.
This meeting will cover two broad topics:
- We will continue our discussions surrounding "Fix My Site", appropriate for people brand new to Drupal along with people who have very specific problems to be fixed.
Chicagoland Drupal Library BoF - Fall '09
We'll be having our Chicagoland Drupal Library BoF on Friday, Sept. 25, 2pm-4pm at the Offices of the Metropolitan Library System (224 S. Michigan) in Chicago.
Cost is free but we need people to register at:
http://www.librarylearning.info/events/?eventID=5356
The Chicagoland Drupal4Lib BoF is an opportunity for librarians to get together and discuss how they use (or would like to use) Drupal in a library context. We'll ask people to present projects they're working on and we'll field questions on problems and approaches to implementing Drupal. All levels of knowledge from expert to beginner are welcome.
Taxonomy for Public Libraries?
Can I invite you to share insight on your library website's TAXONOMY?
New Library-Related Module: Link Resolver
"The Link Resolver Module provides Drupal with a local mechanism to add and maintain institutional link resolver data (institution name, resolver url, etc). Data can be added manually but is also "automagically" captured via the WorldCat OpenURL Gateway IP lookup service as users visit your site, imported en masse via CSV (a default list is included in the module) or added via a WorldCat Registry Institutional ID lookup."

Drop-Down Menu for Frequently used Databases
Hello,
We're working on implementing a drupal library website at library.wheaton.edu and need to create a drop-down box like the Research by Subject link at http://library.queensu.ca/
Does anybody have any code that would do this for us?
Drupal4Lib BoF at ALA in Chicago (7/12) - Report
I'm delighted to report that we had a wonderful Drupal4Lib BoF with maybe 25-30 people (agenda here). You know it's a good sign when after the thing is over, you wish it had lasted maybe another half an hour or more!
DrupalCon Paris Library Session Proposals, Please Vote
If you're attending DrupalCon Paris, according to http://groups.drupal.org/node/24060, the deadline for voting on session proposals is this Sunday, July 12. There are two session proposals tagged for libraries: http://paris2009.drupalcon.org/category/session-free-tagging/libraries. There's also a session proposal I found (and maybe others I missed) that isn't tagged for libraries, but is quite relevant to libraries: http://paris2009.drupalcon.org/session/porting-biblio-cck. And there's lots of other great session proposals.
Library BoF at DrupalCamp Colorado
I just wanted to quickly recap the Library BoF that took place at DrupalCamp Colorado this past weekend. There were about 10 people interested in libraries and Drupal attending, spanning a variety of disciplines, including public, academic, and special libraries, vendors, and consultants.
Discussion centered around the following:

Library RFP examples for consultants
My library is getting ready to migrate to Drupal shortly and I am interested to see examples of RFP's that other libraries have used to hire their consultants. I don't know that it would be appropriate to post them to this site, so please send examples directly to me.
If there is interest, I would be glad to post and/or forward them.
Timeslot for Drupal4Lib BoF at ALA Chicago?
Drupal4Lib BoF at ALA Chicago?
Just a request for ideas and suggestions for a Drupal4Lib BoF at ALA in Chicago. Time is marching on!
Last year in Anaheim, we had a fine get-together. A number of people presented projects they were working on and we had a general discussion on implementing Drupal in a library environment.
Here's my write-up: http://chicagolibrarian.com/node/289
ALA CHICAGO
This year we're in Chicago (my home town!) so I'm really looking forward to repeating the event here.
