User group meeting

I'm pleased to announce the n-teenth monthly Drupal meeting. This meetup will happen on Tuesday 14th April from 6pm, at the Em Space offices at 289 Flinders Lane.

We'll have a general round-the-projector look at what's happening in Drupal-land. GSOC has started so Simon Roberts will give us a kick-start on that.

Everyone is welcome, SMS me on 0425 869 746 if you get to the building after 6:30.

Cheers
Simon

hey RealityLoop. What I thought of doing was a blog post: "Simon's guide to bare minimum Drupal CVS for hacks" since basically I'm a hack and I have "bare minimum" down to a fine art.

Then at the meetup I can take you through this, and we can also take advantage of the Gordons of this world to answer any gnarly questions.

If there is time I would also like to show the new ec_charge and how to set up Australian GST in 5 mins, Maybe 10 if I show you how to do both incl. and excl. GST and also how to handle GST exclusive items.

I was actually quite surprised how easy it was with the new ec_charge structure. I should handle just about any type of charge that you could think of. It just needs the plugins added.

Drupal Theming

kattekrab's picture

Can we have a theming theme for the next meetup?

It'd be great to hear a bunch of different peoples thoughts and approaches.

I dunno, I'm just randomly brainstorming things I'd like to know about - others might have suggestions / questions on this topic too!

Here's a list for starters ;)

  • How to create custom templates - what gotchas to look out for?
  • How to theme from scratch vs using one of the clean slate themes like Zen, or Genesis?
  • Perhaps some tips on working with a designer - turning mock ups into themes?
  • Converting existing themes to work with Drupal?
  • What about pros, cons, gotchas etc with different template engines?
  • Maybe also look at tools to use for theming? Nifty browser plugins, graphics apps, editors...
  • Upgrading themes from 4.x or 5 to work with 6

cheers

BarCampGeelong

SATURDAY 9th JULY, GEELONG

BarCampGeelong 2011 is happening from 9am to 5pm on Saturday 9th July,
2011 at Deakin University's Geelong Waterfront Campus in central Geelong
- a short walk from Geelong's main train station.

Please save the date in your diary and plan to attend.

BarCampGeelong exists to support the grassroots technology community in
and around Geelong and Victoria by providing a laid-back, informal
environment for knowledge sharing, open discussion and networking. Jeans
and t-shirts, lots of gadgets and geek talk will be the order of the
day. More details at http://barcampgeelong.org/

WHAT IS A BARCAMP?

"They are open, participatory workshop-events, whose content is provided
by participants".
Come along to learn and teach others.
See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BarCamp for more details

WHAT CAN I EXPECT?

What is on the program? That will depend on the participants, who can
propose and vote on presentations before the conference. The schedule is
finalised on the first morning of the conference. Suggested topics
include hardware and hardware hacking, networking, programming,
development tools and methodologies, business issues,... you name it- if
it's technical, it's likely to be at BarCampGeelong! .... The list will
totally depend on offers from participants.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

BarCampGeelong attendance is $10 to help cover costs and there are
limited places due to the size of facilities. Registrations are now open
at https://register.eventarc.com/event/view/3679/tickets/barcampgeelong-2011

BarCampGeelong is made possible by very generous sponsors - so far we
have Deakin University, Linux Australia and Duxtel on board.
If you or your company would like to help sponsor BarCampGeelong we can
do help get your message and promotional material in the conference
programme.

AWESOME! WHAT DO I HAVE TO DO NEXT?

  1. Book the date in your diary
  2. Follow @BarCampGeelong on Twitter or Identi.ca or email
    info@barcampgeelong.org for more information
  3. Think about how you will participate in the day - such as through
giving a presentation, a lightning talk or leading a discussion

Alec,

This post is two years old, probably not the best place to post this. Maybe try making a new post instead of replying to a two year old one.

Cheers,
