Start:
2009-04-04 19:00 - 21:00 America/Chicago
Organizers:

I'm going to make a shot at showing off the best of Views 2. Views is a big module that by intention is wholly abstract. Views deserves several days of discussions but we'll see how much I can pack into our two hour meeting.

Hope to see you then. Please sign-up.

We are an open group of Drupal users in Ames, Iowa willing to freely share knowledge about Drupal.

We meet 7-9pm the last Monday of the month at iMed Studios.

Not This Time

Sorry guys.. I can't make this meeting. Got a special school board session that evening and my daughter has a soccer match at home afterward. I will hope to catch up in May if possible. Have fun.

We had a little flooding from the heavy rains over the weekend and I've a little clean up work to do. Hope to see you next month!

DrupalCorn meeting 27Apr09 - Views 2

I'm getting charged up for tonight.
Still got a few books to give away:
* If you bring a brand new member you can have a copy of "Using Drupal" (only 1 left) - http://groups.drupal.org/node/18669#comment-70074
* If you are a brand new member you can have a copy of "Learning Drupal 6" (two copies left) if you write a plea and attend a meeting - http://groups.drupal.org/node/18864

If you don't know much about the Views module and in particular Views2, I recommend watching this - http://www.masteringdrupal.com/screencast/new-features-in-views2/play

A few other good links
http://drupal.org/project/views
http://drupal.org/handbook/modules/views
http://drupal.org/node/395064

The taxonomy term "views" has become useless, as the first bar to a good module is views integration and every module now seems to tag "views".

I should get a Drupal book

Chris White's picture

Well, on the face of it, I should get a Drupal book because I am meeting the requirements--I am a new member of the DrupalCorn group, I attended a regular meeting on April 27, and I'm posting my appeal for a book here!

Because I have dabbled in Drupal--built a couple of sites in 5.X and persuaded my church to migrate our website to Drupal--I recognize that I probably know enough to get into trouble, but not enough to know whether I'm even asking the right questions to address any problems that will come up. I figure that the combination of being a DrupalCorn member and having my own Drupal reference book will provide starting places for learning how to use Drupal effectively. I believe you all are sincere when you encourage sending questions to the group list, but with the book at hand, I should be able to explore options before I ask for help.

The meeting was awesome--I didn't understand all of what was said, but I recognized the language. It was sort of like learning a language in school, then visiting a city where your school language is native. And, like all language acquisition, hearing, reading, and understanding precede speaking and writing. I am thrilled to have the book to help me become more fluent.

I'm also excited about the possibility of reviewing the book for my professional colleagues. I must confess to an ulterior motive here: I am thrilled that I can tell Drupal users I know about the group--and mention the free book incentive. The way I see it, building the DrupalCorn community is good for everybody.

I enjoyed meeting you all. Thanks for the great program and interesting discussion. And thanks for the book!

As Ah-nold would say, "I'll be back."
