DrupalCon Sydney is ready to rock!

DrupalCon Sydney's picture

Only 2 days left until we kick off in Coogee!

Sydney is looking like turning on some amazing weather from Wednesday onwards, with sunny skies, light north winds and temperatures between 24 - 34 degrees. Pack those hats and sunscreen, and remember to swim between the flags if you're taking a dip between sessions.

If you're arriving from overseas or interstate, we recommend grabbing a taxi from the airport to the hotel as the most direct route. Sydneysiders can grab a 30min bus from downtown (http://www.131500.com.au), or limited parking is available at the hotel for $18 per day.

The DrupalCon registration desk will be open from Tuesday 3:30pm and all through Wednesday, so please check in early to avoid the rush on Thursday morning before Dries' keynote. The desk will be open from 7:30am each day with coffee and tea on hand.

Drupal Business Day on Wednesday February 6 is still selling strongly with about ten tickets left, so grab one now at http://sydney2013.drupal.org/drupal-business-day. We'll be having casual opening night drinks on Wednesday evening at the Oceans Bar, downstairs in the hotel.

The full program is now available at http://sydney2013.drupal.org/program/schedule, so jump in and start creating your own personalised schedule.

Birds of a Feather Sessions (http://sydney2013.drupal.org/bofs) will only be able to be added to a fully interactive whiteboard at the venue, so start planning yours now and look for the schedule near the registration desk.

More details about Saturday's code sprint are up on http://sydney2013.drupal.org/program/code-sprint, and please fill out the registration form if you're planning to attend so we can provide adequate catering. The code sprint is free for anyone, even if you didn't attend DrupalCon itself, and the best way to get involved with contributing to Drupal 8.

For all other timely information during the week, follow @DrupalCon on Twitter (https://twitter.com/drupalcon), listen out for last minute updates following each morning's keynote or ask questions at the registration desk.

See you on the beach!

Just wanted to say, really looking forward to seeing everyone at the first Aussie DrupalCon, and massive props to the organisers for what so far seems to be a very well-organised conference!

Minor correction on hotel

Minor correction on hotel parking - there's plenty of it on-site. Entrance is via Carr St. Coogee.

Taxi airport -> conference takes 15 mins, $30

Just arrived and boy weather and beach look fantastic!
Thought I'd mention for those like me newish to Sydney that a taxi from the airport to Coogee Beach where the conference is, takes 15 mins (normal traffic) and costs just under $30.00

Great place to eat: Farinha

RdeBoer's picture

If you're looking for a change of scenery, we had a great dinner last night at Farinha, about a block up on the right when walking up Coogee Bay Road. It's at number 222 -- easy to miss, so pay attention.
Coogee Bay Road is the first main street on the left when you leave the conference hotel facing the beach and walking along it, going left, i.e. north.

The restaurant doesn't have a menu. Quality pizza slices, salads and pasta dishes fresh from the oven just keep coming and you simply eat the ones you fancy.

Fixed price $35.00. Drinks extra.

It has communal tables so great for any group of Drupalers/Drupalistas.
