Sydney Drupal meetup - June - call for contributions

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Hello Drupal girls and guys!
The theme for June Sydney meetup is "Drupal Testing". Exactly as a month ago, we need YOU! :)

There is an incomplete list of what Drupal testing can mean:

  • Simpletest, unit test
  • load test
  • penetration tests
  • functional test
  • manual test
  • running the above from drush, hooking them into jenkins, etc.

As the Testing theme could be a bit advanced for newbies (whom we want to make feel welcome), ideally, we will find somebody who can present an interesting site build which has kind of tests(s) in place.

We need you to:

  • offer to present on a topic, or
  • tell us want you want to hear about.

Just add your ideas to this thread to help contribute!

Our meetup happens every third Thursday of each month, that means June 20. Unexpectedly, the availability of our venue cannot be confirmed for June yet - so the venue and even the date (though unlikely) might change.

I've just been doing some

I've just been doing some patch profiling at DrupalCon. It sort of covers testing changes in internal system performance. Anyone want to hear me blather for five minutes about it?

Can I present some CI stuff?

@marji, I think I've got something to present... it's called Continuous Integration with bubblegum and stickytape

Load testing tools

@marji, I would be happy to talk about/demo some load testing tools (Blitz.IO & BlazeMeter). There are some great integrations with Drupal making them useable by a wider group of people (not just the pros).

@marji I have a presentation

@marji I have a presentation in the works: "Tao of Drupal Testing" - clears up some of the confusion about what different testing strategies apply to which parts of a typical Drupal project and which tools apply to each with examples.

Interested in presentation materials

Hi @boztek,

Sorry for stepping in the discussion with an unrelated comment, but I was attracted by your very interesting proposal for presentation.

I just wanted to let you know I would be greatly interested in your presentation topic, "Tao of Drupal Testing", in particular how you approached the different testing strategies, purposes, steps, etc...
Unfortunately, I wouldn't be able to attend the presentation (unless something remote is setup, a GG Hangout maybe?), however, I would be greatly interested in the materials, if you could potentially get the presentation uploaded on a slide sharing website, provide a direct link or upload a file on GDO.

We might want to translate to Chinese Simplified and/or adapt the presentation to be perhaps used and structured for one of our upcoming events in the China/Shanghai DUG.

Thank you very much for proposing this presentation and in advance for your reply.
Cheers!

@boztek, your talk sounds

@boztek, your talk sounds great. Hope I can make it down to Sydney so I can hear it!

Impressive proposals!

Hello guys,
I'm really excited about all the 4 proposals above!

I think that if there is no more people offering another presentation within a couple of days, we could have all of the 4 currently proposed happening on the night, finishing a bit late - say between 8:15 and 8:30pm?

Said that, let's think about people who started with Drupal recently - can we make the evening interesting enough for them? Beer and Pizza definitely help, but I think we might need some love too :)

David's load testing tools session sounds like it will be friendly for the masses. Peter's bubblegum and stickytape improvisation (sic) (LOL) might make even newcomers laugh, so it's actually not that bad.

Nevertheless, any idea how we could demonstrate how to run some test on a site which currently has no tests integrated? That would be really sweet to "test it out" :)

Commerce/responsive site case study

Hi all,

Happy to share more about the commerce/responsive site I have been working on. Definitely some interesting challenges for site builders.

Checklist + Testing Demo

rcross's picture

I can demonstrate some lower-tech ways of doing QA on sites.

I've can show how a checklist(s) can be used. I've got a small site that I can demo 5 tests you should run on your site before launch.

Its probably only about 5-10 mins.

Beer and Pizza for free!

The June meetup on 20/06 at the ABC centre should be an awesome party, thanks to the upcoming presentations!

To make this evening even better fun, we're now calling for:

  • a beer sponsor
  • a pizza sponsor.

If you would like to sponsor any of the above, please let me know - I'll thank you in the GDO announcement and also at the Sydney Drupal meetup page.

Thank you very much to all of you who submitted session proposals. It was more that what we could fit in the time available and we had a hard time in deciding which ones to choose.

Keeping in mind that the "drupal testing" theme could be a bit hard to digest for newcomers, we have selected a smooth cocktail of topics which has the potential to please both beginners and nerds:

  • @rcross and his Checklist + Testing Demo
  • @davidseth and his Load testing tools
  • @cossovich and his Continuous Integration with bubblegum and stickytape
  • @boztek and his Tao of Drupal Testing

The only regret I have is that there is no "her" in the UL above :)

Looking forward to the party!
Marji

Her?

RumpledElf's picture

You might get me up there eventually ... but it'll only be if I think of something amazing that absolutely NEEDS to be shared. Or if Ryan Cross makes me >.<

Free beer and pizza though, that'll get the ladies in droves.
