Asia Pacific representation at the Drupal Association

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.

Hi everyone,

As some of you might know, I commenced a volunteer role on the Drupal Association Board of Directors (DA) last week. This provides our region with a voice on the DA Board since our last local representative, Donna Benjamin, completed her long and productive term in 2018.

The DA Board works with the new Executive Director, Heather Rocker, overseeing the strategy and finances that her staff of almost 20 people then implements for the benefit of the global Drupal community. This includes running Drupal.org for its 2 million monthly visitors, organising DrupalCon, managing product marketing and liaising with the community. You can find out more at https://www.drupal.org/association

"But what has the DA ever done for me???"...

If you do have initiatives you're running locally and need guidance or assistance from the DA, I wanted to use this opportunity as an invitation to connect with me. I'll do my best to field questions, concerns or ideas you have and connect you with someone that is best placed to assist you. This might include best practices around running meetups, sprints or camps, accessing marketing materials to help win projects, running training days or scholarship funding to attend a DrupalCon. Unfortunately, I can't help you debug any code ;-)

In parallel with the DA, I work with the DrupalSouth committee on community initiatives in Australia & New Zealand, so if you're attending DrupalSouth Hobart (https://drupalsouth.org) later this month, feel free to introduce yourself and have a chat!

You can always find me on Drupal Slack (https://www.drupal.org/slack) as "owenlansbury" or email owenlansbury@gmail.com

In the meantime, you can support the DA financially in the following ways:
* Become an individual or organisation member: https://www.drupal.org/association/individual-membership
* Sign up as a Supporting Partner organisation: https://www.drupal.org/association/supporters

Thanks!

Asia Pacific Drupal Camps

eabquina's picture

Many thanks for this Owen. I'm Eladio (EL) Abquina, the current lead for Drupal Pilipinas Inc here in Manila. We also have a community in Cebu City (Drupal Cebu Users Group). I've submitted our entry with Rachel Lawson (rachel_norfolk) last month for the Local Association representation in the Philippines. I am following the conversations in the drupalcamporganizers Slack group, and just joined the #local-assoc-leads channel in drupalassociation Slack group.

We would love to help and contribute to the Drupal Asia Pacific representation. We should be able to connect with more people in the region that we partnered with for each Drupal Camp across various cities in Asia Pacific. Let us know how we can move this forward.

Let me share previous Drupal Camps where our speakers are not just from the host city, but rather folks across the region.

Let me share Paul De Paula's blog post about DC Manila 2016.
https://fusioncloud.wordpress.com/2016/05/10/drupal-camp-manila-2016/

And also Drupal Camp Singapore 2018! https://www.drupalcamp.sg/sessions

Our next Drupal Camp Manila will be on April 24-26 2020! It could be an opportunity to meet and we can include the Asia Pacific representation more in the agenda.

Man @hodata, I have been so

Man @hodata, I have been so looking forwards to an opportunity to get to a Japan Drupal event!
I really want to get in touch with the community there, and we've got some opportunities to share. Japan is dead in my sights for Drupal expansion next year.

But heck - it's pretty hard to get any traction with only one months notice, let alone a call for speakers that short!
We have to plan these sort of things a bit further ahead than that.
Even so, I'll look at the possibility - I really want to see who's active in the community in Japan.

Thanks
