User group meeting

Hi all,

Confirming that the April meeting will be on the 21st April at 5:30pm at the State Records Office of WA in a meeting room on the ground floor.

If you enter through the State Library reception, head towards the western wall (printing/change machine) of the public computer terminal area. There will be a door with a sign saying "WA Drupal User Group" - come on in :-)

Any problems and the people on the reception desk should be able to assist you to locate us.

Please let me know if you can make it so that catering doesn't fall apart :-)

Looking forward to seeing you all!

Cheers
Meg

Anyone like to speak about anything specific at this?

PaulH from Busselton mentioned that he will present about how his work is using Drupal.

Laptop and projector available ;-)

Fantastic :-) Anyone else got something to throw in the mix?

I'll be there

thsutton's picture

I'll be there (I'm signed up) and I'll be bringing two others from work (who don't have G.D.O account and thus can't signup for the event).

I'll see if I can finish off an Aegir install on my laptop tonight so we can play with that if there's interest and time.

we have an aeigr installation

we have an aeigr installation that people can play with assuming the room has internet access.

I've got my Aegir install up

thsutton's picture

I've got my Aegir install up and running with a few versions of stock Drupal as well as Open Atrium, Managing News. I know we've mentioned both OA and MN at previous meetups, but I reckon some people may not have seen them before so this might be interesting.

Yep, there'll be internet

Yep, there'll be internet access via my laptop and a projector in the room - unfortunately our IT people won't allow external machines to be connected to our network.

Look forward to seeing you

Look forward to seeing you all tonight - there should be a few of us.

Some links to stuff

thsutton's picture

Here are some links to the things I spoke about:

  • Aegir is the Drupal-hosting management platform thingo.
  • Open Atrium is a Drupal-based intranet package.
  • Managing News is a Drupal-based news aggregation and analysis package.
  • MapBox simplifies the process of turning GIS data into maps (and a bunch of maps, ready to go).

I followed the INSTALL.txt file in the Git repository to get my install up and running. This pretty much boils down to setup the software, setup the user account, and run the install script.

A great meeting

Thanks everyone. It was a great meeting and nice to catch up with most of you.

Cheers,

Paul

Indeed, was a great meetup -

Indeed, was a great meetup - venue/facilities at the State Library rock!

Thanks to Paul, Ben, Alex and Thomas for the great presentations.

Look forward to the next one - I think there was a tentative date for Wed 26th May discussed.

Yes, thanks everyone for

megt's picture

Yes, thanks everyone for coming along - I think we can host more at the State Records Office, probably not every month though ;-)

Thanks also to the people who presented, good to see the very new developments as well as what other people are using Drupal for.

Has anyone thought about the May meetup?

thsutton's picture

So, can we pencil the 26th in (though I probably won't make it)?

If the next meeting's going

alexkb's picture

If the next meeting's going ahead, I'm happy to do a presentation on the epub file format and the recent work we did for getting the monthly magazine content (drupal 6.x site) prep'ed for tablet devices (i.e. ipad). Note: it's actually really simple, so don't get too excited!

I'm up for the 26th, but we

I'm up for the 26th, but we can't provide our meeting room at SRO this time...

Any other suggestions for a venue?

The itomic boardroom will be

alexkb's picture

The itomic boardroom will be too small, given the numbers last time. I know Spoon Media put there hand up to host, once upon a time, maybe they can assist, will wait and see.

Alternatively, we could have a break for May, and resume in June if the SRO room is available then?

Hey Alex, We can host it here

ac's picture

Hey Alex,

We can host it here but we have limited seating (5 office chairs and two couches). Space isn't so much of an issue so if we can arrange some seating then it is no problem. Anyone own a furniture store?

Got any milk crates around

alexkb's picture

Got any milk crates around the place? Old PC cases will do the job of seats too :)

Sorry all but looks like I

Sorry all but looks like I won't be able to make it tonight at all.

Definitely want to hear about the next one though!

I didn't know this was going

I didn't know this was going ahead tonight? Where is it?

Ah ac - I thought you had

megt's picture

Ah ac - I thought you had actually offered to host it - my mistake!

Sorry Meg - I had offered to

ac's picture

Sorry Meg - I had offered to host on the condition that we could get some chairs from someone :P If anyone has any we are happy to host but it seems tonight might not be the best day. I know Paul from Shire of Busselton was trying to arrange a venue for next week as he is in Perth so perhaps we should postpone for a week.

Nothing was setup on here as

Nothing was setup on here as an event, so I was presuming it wasn't going ahead? If there is one tonight, I won't be able to make it either. Look forward to the next one though.

Possible new meeting site

parkview's picture

Hi all,

I didn't think it was going to happen this week, so I have been trying to find a place to meet for next week, since I am up in Perth for the week. I only contacted them this morning and I am still to hear back from them. Hopefully I should be able to post an update by the end of the week. I know it's not an official meetup, but I would be happy to have a chat with any and all about Drupal and/or Open Source Software, in a proper meeting room, or just at a pub.

This could be my last visit to Perth for quite sometime so I want to try and make the most of it ;-)

Awaiting more info

parkview's picture

Hi,

I will be meeting up with some of the people next week: 1st or 2nd of June, so I will have more to report about this after then.

In the mean time, anyone want to meet up after work on Monday the 31st at a downtown Perth/Northbridge pub to talk Drupal or Open Source Software? Brass Monkey?

Cheers,

Paul
