I love the idea of NYC starting a regular Dojo, Gus Austin aka gusaus just posted a dicussion of local Dojo's . What do people feel about this, if there is any enthusiasm about it, I think we should reach out to our members that are entrenched in the local colleges or local Co-Working locations. I felt like I learned so much from those initial Drupal Dojo sessions run by joshk (Josh Koenig), senpai (Joel Farris) and others, and it would be cool to do something within our large and diverse community.

I would be very interested! I am a beginner, and just came back from DrupalConSF and am looking forward to hooking up with the community here, learning and contributing!

Sounds neat
I read some about Drupal Dojos and it sounds sort of like the Themer's Day? I would be interested in checking it out as another way to expand the community, and possibly deliver some tutorials myself.

Yes most definitely!
I was just looking at that post and totally agree.
this sounds really good...
this sounds really good... wouldn't mind contributing..
Sounds excellent
Please keep me in the loop on this.
This would be cool
I was just thinking about having a local Bartik sprint sometime in the next two weeks, but was left wondering where to have it. (The themers play-date is in a very inconvenient location.) Perhaps the group can find a place more centrally located where people can get together to sprint on whatever.... that would be cool.

I am also a beginner and would be very interested in a Drupal Dojo!
Great idea!
I'd love to help out too. I can probably arrange to use a space at Green Map. It's not huge, but can probably fit 15 people. It's in the East Village on 4th st between A & B. More central than Brooklyn, but still in a bit of a public transport gap (convenient for F, V & L; reasonably convenient for 6 and several buses).
A big +1 to Robbie on our new GDO voting tool!

This is brilliant, I am also all about participating and contributing whatever I can to this.
How many people would a dojo cap out at though?
+1
Probably depends on the
Probably depends on the venue, but it would likely to be <50 people total cause it will get to out of hand for the types of gatherings.

Count me in.
I'm out of town for a few weeks but would love to help once I'm back. (I'm Brooklyn-biased but flexible.)

Excellent...
More is better when it comes to this kind of event.
We should remember that the Themer's Playdays that JohnVSC has been making happen in Brooklyn certain appear to stem from the same very deep understanding of how good stuff gets better.

Also interested, but . . .
I'm also interested in a local Drupal Dojo. Although, I'm not sure what role I would play.
I'm interested!
Nothing like getting thrown around the Dojo a few times to get your skills up to speed.

has this happened yet? I'd like more info...
Anyone out there like the idea of meeting in a.m. times...on occasion if not regularly...when the coffee is fresh? Are we limited to Manhattan? -gg
I still want this to happen
I still want this to happen so if you have ideas that would be great. I am a 9-5pm person so I can't do mornings but there are likely people that are co-working / freelance that could make whenever you can :-)
Robbie
+1 for occasional co-working,
+1 for occasional co-working, especially if it's in Brooklyn. How many people are interested? We could simply meet at a café...

Astoria
Anyone in the Astoria area (I know there are a bunch of us out there) that knows of a spot that can house 15-25 people with wifi? The Library doesn't look like a viable option like it was in NJ. I think Astoria would be a good spot to get one of these started :)

Brooklyn in the hizzouse
Yeah, I'm down for something in Brooklyn preferably something reachable by F or A train.
LIC is good for me...we could rotate boroughs...
... Bklyn, LIC, an occasional Union Square maybe ... Sometimes a.m. sometimes p.m. Even a weekend would be good for me... I'm in for collaborating: setting up learning sessions; set up/share CVS, portfolio pieces, etc. Any dates you guys want to throw out there? -gg
anyone want to meet the week of nov 1st?
Is there already a plan in place for this dojo, w/ a leader, etc? (I can't do Nov 3 Drupal/NYC Meetup )but interested in connections & co-working, provide training, Dojo, resources, ideas for projects and how to start contributing...daytime please will come to Bklyn, but how about midtown or Union Square, if nor LIC, quiet, wi-fi; recommendations?
