Please go over to here and make your suggestions for topics and discussion topics. There is also a NY Themers Playday planned, date has been set June 13th. Please RSVP if you are planning on attending this meetup or the upcoming play days.

Thanks for showing up!

I want to thank everyone for showing up at the new location. and thanks to Robbie for assisting in the on-going transition.

I spoke with the director of Bergen Community College in the Meadowlands. Unfortunately there is no available in the evening at the moment. He we will keep us in mind however.
If there are available rooms after September enrollment, he will let me know.

In the meantime we will continue to meet at the Panera on 17 South in East Rutherford on the second Wednesday of the month. Is 7pm a good start time?.

I will also inquire with Felician College, which has a campus in Rutherford.

As I mentioned at the meeting, it would be nice to have regular participants so that we could move forward with monthly agendas as well as a long-term agenda (3 to 6 months).
from what I can tell, Rich, Lanny may be regulars. Since Robbie has already declared his departure I can't include him a regular (unless his plans change).

I want to thank you all for allowing me to present my ideas. Now we all need to follow through!

Rich casually showed us some mock-ups on a website he is working on. Perhaps you (Rich) could provide more detail so we could dicuss your issues during the less structured half of the meeting?

Lanny raised questions about setting up a drop-down menu. Lanny maybe you could bring in more details for the next meeting. Again for the less structured half of the meeting?

Between Lanny and Rich that could easily cover 30 minutes, maybe an hour.

Ken from NBA.com expressed interest in a pm/Drupal Ninja/trainer. He also would like his team to play a more participative role in the Drupal Community. He has offered to bring some of his developers to future NNJ Drupal Meet-ups. Perhaps a presentation from Ken or one of his developers on the issues they are encountering on adopting Drupal would be helpful to the rest of us.

I suggested presentation my own module as well as doing a code walk-through. I think they may have been some misunderstanding from the rest of the group with regards to code walk-through. I am not suggesting that we do code walk-through at every meeting. However, I do believe that walk-through occasionally would be useful. After all, are developers not one of the main roles that participate in Drupal meet-ups besides designers/themers and project managers. What other roles am i missing?

William expressed interest in a code walk-through, and obviously it interests me. So i think it will valuable use of time well spent.

Naturally, Robbie is an overflowing fountain of knowledge and detail, jumping from one topic to the next. I'm going to have to start taking notes!

Again, everyone, please start figuring out which module you want to discuss and gives us a heads up here . This will allow those interested to attend and those not interested to pass.

And how about those who signed up, but didn't attend. Was it the weather, the location or something else?

Thanks,
Tom

Sorry I didn't make it to

Sorry I didn't make it to this one. I was home early from a client site, took a nap, and woke up after 7! I do plan on being a "regular" going forward.

I'd like to keep the meetup in East Rutherford, as it's close to me.

No, problem, Ed. After I sent

No, problem, Ed.

After I sent i my previous message, i realized that I didn't mention your name. Even though you weren't at the least meet-up, i figured you would be a regular.

Of course, no one owes me an explanation for not showing up. I'm not always able to attend myself. I was just wondering if weather or location had an effect and I just want to be able to start making agendas; and it's easier with regulars.

Regular Place to Meet

kaw3939's picture

Hi,

Would anyone be interested in Meeting at New Jersey Institute of Technology on a regular basis? We have labs, food, coffee, etc... and I have approval from administrators to host the meetings here.

Anyone interested?

Thanks for the offer, kaw.

tomsherlock's picture

Thanks for the offer, kaw. However, i prefer to keep the meet ups in the Rutherford-East Rutherford area;it's more convenient for me. And there seems to be a consensus on moving NNJ Drupal meet-up to the Rutherford area and to keep it in a single location. I'd rather move on to establishing our monthly and long-term agendas.

You're welcome to start your own meet-up; you already have three interested people (If you do, i suggest you start a separate thread).

New Jersey Institute of Technology would a great place to host our first DrupalCampNJ in 2011 or 2012, however :)

It's geographically between Central NJ and Flemington Drupal Meetups and the Northern NJ Drupal Meetup.

I actually thought a drupal camp at NJIT would be better. We have the lab facilites and a good location. I'm very friendly with the events staff and could probably make arrangements for some things. The only issue is that all catering for events must be done through the campus dining services. But there are a lot of places around to go eat and you can always bring your own. Who knows, NJIT is very supportive of open source software, so some arrangements may be made.

Is there a fee for Drupal camps?

A fee to run a drupalcamp?

winston's picture

Certainly not. The ideal drupal camp location has good rooms, excellent wifi, excellent media support, lots of power for laptops, etc. And it's CHEAP.

So the next step if you seriously want to run a drupalcamp at NJIT would be to find out about the following:

What is the largest room (auditorium style) you have? Usually an "opening ceremony" or if the camp will be run "barcamp" style that largest room will determine your max capacity.

What other rooms do you have and their sizes/ability to support technical presentations. I've been to NJIT so I'm guessing you'll no issues there.

And most importantly what would be the costs. Having to have food supplied by your dining services is a big minus as that usually adds significantly to the costs. However it is not an insurmountable obstacle. Go to the Denver drupal group. They are doing their camp week after next at a location with a similar restriction. You can see some of their conversations about that issue.

NJIT would be an excellent location if the costs work to keep the event inexpensive for attendees.

That, Winston. He doesn't

That, Winston. He doesn't miss a trick!

I was going to suggest that kaw3939 speak to Winston or tom_o_t about setting up a DrupalCamp.

NJIT would be great! I

NJIT would be great! I remember someone mentioning this a couple of years ago. Is there parking?

parking

kaw3939's picture

Hi,

Parking is a possibility, I would need to arrange it in advance. We would need some discussion on this.

NJIT would actually make it

mdorman's picture

NJIT would actually make it possible for me to attend these since it's accessible via mass transit. Also, as an alum I'd love to have a reason to visit and see how the campus has changed. :)

Why not take a vote? Newark

cocogodiva's picture

Why not take a vote? Newark isn't far from Rutherford at all. All of what 7 miles? It seems as of right now there is no "cozy" location available, like we had at the library. Thr Panera on 17 doesn't have a room. I'm guessing at NJIT we wouldn't face the challenges of outlets, high speed internet, easy access to public transportation and plus didn't someone say coffee? Just my thoughts.

NJIT

kaw3939's picture

Hi,

I'm leaving to go on a vacation till the 28th, so I won't be able to schedule a meetup in June at NJIT. However, I can do one in July, just need to confirm dates with the facilities manager.

I will need to know how many people...

Here is what we will have:

  1. Projector
  2. 20+ seat lab with Internet of course
  3. I can arrange for parking and there is public transportation within 100 yards of the meeting location

I think that having a lab with computers MAC or PC available would make for a great regular meeting spot.

We have a place to buy coffee down the hall, but we can bring a small amount of food / drink here without much of a problem. During the fall / spring semester we can also get cheap pizza on campus and there is a bar too.

I'm interested!

Newark is a great location - thanks for setting this up. I would definitely be interested.
