Lets do something wonderful for Bakersfield.
Drupal is an application platform for building powerful websites. Drupal has a strong community that emphasizes sharing of code and knowledge. One of the key activities in the Drupal community is monthly meetups. We want to bring those meetups to Bakersfield.
We plan on offering a series of presentations in our first year that will bring attendees thru the basics of getting started with Drupal to advanced topics of interest to all Drupal site builders.
Our goal will be to bring people together and start many conversations about Drupal. Everyone will have a chance to learn and contribute to make our local Drupal community strong. We believe building this base of local knowledge will be very good for Bakersfield and Kern County.
When you become a member of this group will will receive regular updates about our planned meetups and other activities.
How to join this group:
- First create an account at Drupal.org, which is the "master" site of groups.drupal.org. Joining Drupal.org will create an account on all the the other *.drupal.org subdomains.
- Once you have your Drupal.org account and have logged in, go to the Bakersfield Drupal home page at http://groups.drupal.org/bakersfield
- Finally, click the Join link found in the right sidebar. You'll be a member of the Bakersfield group l after confirming your membership.
Presentation Format for our monthly meetups

The format of our meetups will consist of introductions, group business and announcements from our attendees, followed by one or two 'lighting talks' which are 5 minute presentations by those in attendance who would like to share a recent project release, a wonderful discovery of some new Drupal related resource.
Next will be a 45 minute to 1 hour presentation focusing on general Drupal concepts, Drupal best-practices, how to navigate the Drupal community and specific advanced Drupal site-building and deployment techniques.

Congrats on the new group! I suggest merging this new group with the existing Antelope Valley / Bakersfield group. That group is fairly inactive but already has a couple members in it:

What do you think?
FWIW, I couldn't find anything about this new Bakersfield group in the issue queue:
