A call for presenters AND attendees
PLZ reply with ideas and comments. All input welcome!
The organizers of SouthEast LinuxFest have asked me to volunteer to organize a FREE one day Drupalcamp to take place on day2 of the SouthEast LinuxFest. http://www.southeastlinuxfest.org/
WHEN: Sunday June 13th
WHERE: Spartenburg Marriott at the Renaissance http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/SPAMC?groupCode=slxslxa&app=resvlink&fromDate=6/10/10&toDate=6/14/10
Spartenburg SC
TRAVEL: The hotel is 10 min away from Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport (GSP) which serves most air lines.
REGISTRATION: Opens soon and will be on www.southeastlinuxfest.org
We can have as many as three tracks and we have a FULL DAY to fill up. The response I get from potential presenters and attendees will aid in determining how many tracks we will have.
This is a group effort. Chime in and be a part of the 1st DrupalCamp in SC!
If you will attend this event PLZ register as attending on this post so I can get a preliminary idea of the initial interest level. :-)
Thanks!

be there..
I will be there Doug. Thanks!
I'll be there
Hopefully. Have to schedule and clear it with the boss first. And by boss I mean my wife. But this sounds like it would be a great weekend. I wanted to go last year. At some point my wife will begin to ridicule me for being a nerd though if I keep asking to attend all these geek conferences.
On another note, I'd be happy to present something. Maybe something theme related or about contributing? I open for suggestions on what needs to be talked about. What would the parameters for a presentation need to be.(Time, media, etc.)

Apparently the registration opened as I was making my post!
You can go to southeastlinuxfest.org and register.
That IS a Drupal site even though its not the most flattering one. Next time around we will have to work together to get them a better one!

Tentatively planning to be there, depending on work schedule and all.

Great
Would love to attend. I don't what my schedule will be like then but I would really like to come if possible.
Planning to come as well,
Planning to come as well, although June 13 is my birthday!
I can do something
Doug, I think I can make it up to Spartanburg for the day. It's only 3 hours or so.
I will have some material prepared from DCSF covering both Domain Access and Drupal 7's Node Access system, but could potentially cover some other stuff. I could do some showcases as well.
I went ahead and registered.

That's awesome Ken!
Excellent Ken. Soon we'll have a site where we can coordinate all of this.
Thanks a lot!

Update
I added a few more groups to this WIDELY cross posted thread. The poor quality of my public school education left me unaware that there were more cities and states that were close to the SC! :-)
U P D A T E
We're looking good.
Many of you have already registered for free and some of you have even paid for your box-lunches! wow!
We have me, Ken Rickard, and some fine folk from MediaCurrent on board for presentations. Tom Sliker is reaching out to the SC DrupalUsersGroup on their 2nd ever meeting next week! I love watching new groups start! He may find some willing presenters as well.
I'm still working with the SouthEast LimuxFest organizers to get their website up to DrupalCamp quality. Time is on our side but I'm anxious to see it go live.
We likely have ONE videographer but would need a 2nd.
And that's all the news I can think of for now.
Thanks to all for jumping in and helping out!

Call for Drupal Presenters...
All,
I'm trying to help Doug mobilize speakers for the Drupalcamp that will take place in conjunction with S.E.L.F. in Spartanburg, SC on Sunday, June 13th, 2010.
In short, we have 12 slots (6 beginner/6 advanced) that need to be filled - it looks like Ken has already stepped up to lead an advanced session. If anyone else would like to present please reach out to me ASAP at dave dot terry at mediacurrent dot com. This should be a really good time, and its awesome that the Linux folks are letting us use their facilities (for FREE). If we have more presentations than slots, a committee can decide or do a vote/poll beforehand.
We will not set an official deadline (yet), but the further ahead you can submit the better - this helps tremendously with planning!
Thanks,
Dave
Mediacurrent
I'm willing to do something
I'm willing to do something for the beginner track. Maybe something like, "What Modules Should I Use?". When you first get into Drupal it's really tough to figure out what is a must-have and what should be avoided.
Mike Carnell is a Wordpress guy that has taken up Drupal. If his calendar permits, he is interested in doing a compare and contrast WP v Drupal. This would be on the beginner track, too, I think.

Any presentation slots still open for theming? beginner or advanced, I'd like to present.
Also, anyone want to carpool from Asheville area?
I've submitted a Theming presentation
I've submitted a Theming presentation already(Advanced level) and put down to give it. If you'd like we could tag team on the presentation/topic of Advanced theming.

Hey Adam, What exactly is
Hey Adam,
What exactly is your presentation topic? I was thinking about doing a presentation on using Skinr and/or the Fusion base theme as an advanced presentation. Looks like there are 12 presentation slots to fill - we can easily have 4 or more of those slots be theming presentations.
Fusion and Skinr
+1 to covering Fusion and/or Skinr! I've been using them much lately, although not really knowing exactly what I'm doing :P
D7 in June?
Here's a question....
I have my 1st Drupal7 presentation scheduled for late March. I hope to have my May presentations at www.CMSexpo.net centered on Drupal7. I see Ken Rickard offered Drupal7 Node Access.
I wonder to what extent we need to make a concerted effort to have D7 sessions at s.e.l.f. DrupalCamp SC?
While I'm asking the question, here are two links that explain some of the differences between D6 and D7:
For modules: http://drupal.org/node/224333
For themes: http://drupal.org/update/theme/6/7
Doing the math got me thinking about all of this. s.e.l.f. DrupalCamp SC is 8 weeks after DrupalCon SF, and the high expectation is that D7 should be available "around" Drupalcon. ;-)
Hi
I will be there also!
Yoddle Ho
Penciling in on the calendar.
See you guys there.
See you guys there.
Interesting
This sounds interesting. I'm just getting started developing in Drupal and we will be launching a higher education site in July on Drupal. Do you have to register for the linuxfest for this DrupalCamp or can you register separately?
What kinds of things do you need presenters for?
Registration
Chris,
Currently the registration process is solely at the http://www.southeastlinuxfest.org/ site.
Drupalcamp is on day2 of the s.e.l.f. You are welcome to enjoy the 1st day and even the pre-day.
Dave Terry and I are assembling a list of people and the sessions they are willing to offer. Right now we have 14 sessions for 12 slots. Some people are offering multiple sessions. As we get more proposals we can consider the balance between beginner and advanced and whether a speaker is needed for two sessions or just one.
Translation: Keep the proposals coming! :-)

For the SouthEast LinuxFest DrupalCamp Schedule!
Let me know if you see any conflicts or have any issues with the schedule. It's still a flexible schedule at this point.
We had some AWESOME submissions and we had just enough to fill the day!
If you're name is on the list and anything has changed, PLZ contact me at sysop AT dougvann . com
I'm told by the s.e.l.f. organizers that the DrupalCamp portion of the fest is garnering some pretty good attention.
If you don't have your hotel booked, I recommend that you hop over to The Hotel Reservation Page and get that done.
See you there!

Nice job! Mediacurrent sessions (Roger, Steven, and Dante) are all good to go - no conflict with any of those time slots. I have an email into Brent to confirm his availability.
Let me know if you need volunteer help the day of the event - I can help man a registration booth or whatever.

Sorry, I've been busy with
Sorry, I've been busy with the spring semester all year, so I wasn't planning on attending; but with summer upon me, I can make this happen. My only request is, can y'all switch the times for the beginners theming and advanced theming? I'd like to go to the advanced one after the beginners' one.
Tom, your session sounds interesting. My recommended initial module is the admin menu, and some other, mostly social networking modules that I recommend are http://suds.blogsite.org/content/install-other-modules. Most of those did not work well with PgSQL for what it's worth.
Schedule changed
Good call!
I have moved the advanced theming to appear after the beginning theming. [whoa common sense evaded me that time!]
I have also shortened the opening keynote to 30 min and allowed 8:00 to 8:30 for registration.

Adam took an open slot to do a Intro to Drupal session THNX MAN!
and Issac, an intern with MediaCurrent, is going to Rock our socks off with Social Networking in Drupal!
I can't believe its so close! I really wish wish wish we had our own site to show off the speakers and topics. If we do this gain next year we should have the advantage of a camp-distro for Drupal!
If you have any remaining questions about the schedule bring them up. This camp is pretty paid back, we can do what is needed to make things work.
Thanks!

a site to show off the speakers and topics
I really wish wish wish we had our own site to show off the speakers and topics.
I can help set up one.
a DrupalCamp SC site is up
Whoa! I spent the last 2 hours throwing together a quick site using one of the Themed Profiles over at http://www.cmsquickstart.com
I come back here to announce it and I see that handheld_car has offered to build a site. LOL
Any way...
I just finished a VERY crude site build over at http://self.dougvann.com
You still need to register http://www.southeastlinuxfest.org/registration/form for LinuxFest if you're coming to DrupalCamp SC.
If you would please, go to http://self.dougvann.com and register there as well and IF you're speaking PLZ use the provided link on the page to CREATE your session(s)
I will build out some views to show them off.
ANY ONE IS WELCOME TO JOIN IN on the site. I'll gladly give ssh or FTP access to anyone who wants to improve something. Your name will be listed on a page thanking all who contributed to the site. :-)

Why not archive that info here
For long-term access to that data, I'd suggest that instead of wasting time and money building multiple islands that you put all your info on the camp in your drupal group. This way it's available over time to the entire community and you will always have it as a reference for future camps no matter what. This has worked well for us over at the NYC drupal group where we have everything related to our last 4 camps accessible. In fact, due to political, organizational, and archival concerns, we have made an intentional decision to keep all NYC drupal camp content (and all nyc drupal users group content in general) only on g.d.o's community centric/supported infrastructure.
WHOA!
I took a look at your panel page setup and thats pretty stinkin' awesome! I see you have chosen og_recent_type_term from the VIEWS options and then with arguments I see story/##### where I believe #### is the term_id for the terms you are using for your tracks. But I'm not sure how the view parses the arg(0) as the node-type then the arg(1) as term_id. I'm guessing it must be in the first screen you get after you pick og_recent_type_term as the view.
Can you clarify?
Thanks for sharing this!

I wrote Tom for the logo, so if you'd like me to change it on the Drupal Camp site, I made an account called kete. I'm not sure if you're still using the site since the archive reply.
Still using the site
Yep.
I like the archive idea but we're too close to the gig to change anything now.
If we were months out and were looking at proposals, etc... Maybe....
I'll def consider that for my own camp here in Indianapolis when we have one. Right now we're all excited about these 33 cars running in circles all day this coming Sunday ;-)
I'll give your user access to change the logo.
if you need to do any css adjustments in the header, shoot me an email at doug AT dougvann D0t c0m and I'll get you ssh/ftp .

Just in case you preferred
Just in case you preferred the shiny Drupal logo, I changed the logo and the favicon b/c that seemed like the plan. Looking back at this thread, I'm not sure where I got that idea, and the shiny Drupal logo might be more appropriate.Ok, I got the SC Drupal logo from TS, and I just about have the logo and favicon finished.

121 registered for DrupalCamp SC
Whoa!
We're at 121 registered for our camp!
If you have not logged into self.dougvann.com [ most of you have not ] and listed your session, please do so.
The at the door registration will potentially double our numbers to 242 and we have a capacity of 250 which is 125 per room. So if some of you rockstarz attract a crowd its going to get COZY!
Hang in there gang! Its been a bumpy ride! It's hard to coordinate a camp from far away but all of us have stayed the course and we're going to make it happen!
update
Doug,
Thanks to you and others involved on the DrupalCamp SC site. I added my session. Will we have data projectors?
Looking forward to the camp.
Which Twitter hashtag would be best? #drupalcampsc #drupalsc?
Thanks much!
Mark
Good Question
Let's use #drupalcampsc as the hashtag. I'm glad you brought that up Mark.
and YES we are very blessed with a full AV accompaniment for our gig! The fine folks at s.e.l.f. are proving everything for us.
? on the AV stuff
Have the SELF people let you know yet what sort of AV set up there will be? As I am sure the presenters will be using a variety of setups to create their presentations.
Basically I have a newer MB Pro and often have problems when I want to hook it up to projectors if I don't have my mini-dvi adapters for dvi and vga. I'm sure some other people will have other different set ups as well.
I'm just curious if you have any knowledge yet as to what the AV set up will be, so we can be somewhat prepared.

I was about to say that V G A is the way to PLAY but I thought I'd better check 1st. Sure enough... its ALL VGA ALL the time at south east linux fest.
I'll have my macbook -> VGA adaptor. I always wind up lending it out at Drupal events. We'll see what happens here. I do believe its different than the MB-Pro interface AND I know that its different from the MB-Air.
Words to the wise...
