Drupal Nebraska Group

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.

Welcome to the Groups site for the Nebraska Developers and Users Group, where we discuss, share and find ways to provide local face-to-face interaction which can support activities like hosting speakers, providing tutorials, Question and Answer sessions, establishing relationships with others in the geographic area, and generally expand the community of Drupal users.

As of 2018, our meetups are held quarterly at Creighton University.

Other ways to connect:
Slack: The #nebraska channel on drupal.slack.com
Meetup: Omaha Drupal Meetup
Twitter: DrupalNebraska

Even if you're from the surrounding areas, we won't hold it against you. You're welcome to join us in person at the meetups or chat in the #nebraska channel on drupal.slack.com. (I'm looking at you Denver/Colorado, Iowa, South Dakota, and Kansas City!)

If you want to get on our radar or get more involved, please share your contact information with us, and fill out our member strengths inventory to help us tailor the group to your needs.

March 2019 Meetup Recap and going forward

We had a great meetup yesterday with Ben Stallings presenting on Migrating to D8.

To see a recording of the presentation (obviously not exactly the same), go to http://2018.drupalcorn.org/session/migrating-various-drupal-8-entities/i...

An attendee asked if we can have them more often. Currently, we are doing them quarterly, but I'm for bi-monthly or even monthly if we can swing it. Here's the key: we need people who will help plan and sponsors to pay for food.

Omaha Drupal Meetup (Q1 2019) - Migrating to Drupal 8

Start:
2019-03-05 18:30 - 21:00 America/Chicago
Organizers:
Event type:
User group meeting

The Migrate API in Drupal 8 is a huge step forward for ease of use... it's just not very well documented yet. We'll take a quick tour through what comes with Drupal core, what functionality contrib modules add, and how to create your own custom migrations to import most anything to most anywhere in your Drupal 8 site, including nodes, media entities, Commerce products, and Paragraphs.

Pizza and soda will be served.

Come for the code (and food); stay for the community.

Next Omaha Drupal Meetup topics

Last night, we had a great discussion with Adam G-H (@phenaproxima) from Acquia about Lightning. But what about next time?

We'd like to start getting together quarterly for now, so the next event is slated for Feb 19 or 20 (either the Tuesday or Wednesday).

Questions about D8 Lightning by Acquia

At the upcoming Omaha Drupal Meetup, @phenaproxima will be joining us to talk about the Acquia Lightning Drupal 8 distribution.

So that any would-be interested party has some input, I wanted to see if anyone had any questions they would like to have addressed.

What would you like to know about Lightning?

Lightning Drupal 8 Distribution from its Maintainer

Start:
2018-11-14 18:00 - 20:00 America/Chicago
Organizers:
Event type:
User group meeting

The Lightning distribution of Drupal 8 is Acquia's prescription to what is ailing most people or organizations who want a content-focused Drupal package. It comes with features that many editors want, such as Layout, Media, Workflow and Preview, while still being light-weight (you know, for Drupal).

For about a year, Creighton University has been building its Drupal 8 platform on top of Lightning, so its developers have experience with customizing the distro to fit a complex client's needs.

Organizers:
Event type:

Drupal 8 may have been released over two years ago, but it’s still the newcomer in the Drupal community and at Creighton University. At present, we’re still working on getting our Drupal 8 platform ready for production. But we’re very close.

Come see how we’ve assembled a collection of contributed and custom modules, sub-themed Bootstrap, and leveraged Acquia’s Lightning distribution to create our own site building powerhouse. Plus, we’ll talking about using Aegir for our “local” development.

Remote, part-time Drupal developer work

We are looking for a Drupal developer who can help us build a Drupal 8 platform, based on our current Drupal 7 platform. If you are knowledgeable about Drupal 8 modules and what we need to replicate the functionality and appearance of our Drupal 7 platform in Drupal 8, please contact me at christianburk@creighton.edu.

In addition, there may need to be some custom module development--porting over our custom Drupal 7 modules--or patching of Drupal 8 modules for our purposes.
