Midwest Internet Incorporated MAP!
(317) 287-3232
5348 N Tacoma Ave
Indianapolis, IN

We will take a tour of the data-center and drool over racks and racks of servers. My server's there and that of my former employer [ask me about that one!]
They also have a rather impressive museum of technology including computers developed by people that are no longer walking the earth.
We'll have a conference room w/ projector and plenty of power for laptops.

When?
Saturday April 12th
1pm

Why?
Learn more about how your favorite CMS is taking over the world! Or if your new to Drupal find out how not to get left behind.

ME:

I'll fill you in on some of the fascinating developments in the Drupal Community. I learned a lot at Drupalcon in Boston.
At my current place of employment we just re-did our site and launched the Drupal version of it 3 weeks ago.

YOU!

Bring your Drupal questions. Get convinced that Drupal makes you look like an amazing web-developer. [yep... I stole that line]
Already have Drupal sites you've built? Show them off. Share the modules you used and the modules you had to author.
Share the theming you did that made your site look like you instead of Drupal.

Data-Center Rep.

A representative from MidWest Internet inc will be there to explain the services they provide and answer your server questions. I use these guys and I love 'em!

IndyAssociates.com Rep.

My buddy Mike will be on hand. He maintains a Drupal site for his blog. He also operates an internet consulting business that helps companies big and small to monetize their presence on the world wide web. This guy knows his stuff.

Please use the handy interface on this posted event and "Sign Up" as an attendee of this event.
Bring a friend. While we want Drupal veterans to be there we also want to grow the community and expose other developers and up-n-coming developers to the awesomeness that is Drupal.
See You There

Bob...

dougvann's picture

Right you are Bob.
Just for you I moved the meeting from 0100 to 1300.
On many occasions I find myself working with Drupal at 0100. That must be what I was thinking.
But for sake of all... We'll stick w/ 1PM
Thanks watching out for my lack of clock skills!

Yesterday's Meeting Was a Sucess! Thank You!

dougvann's picture

After having two meetings where it was me and one other person we had our first "REAL" meeting yesterday and it was a great success.
Thank you to Mike, Aaron, Kevin, PK, Bob, Tanisha & Trevon for coming.
Fresh fruits & vegies nd lots of Drupal knowledge were consumed. Oh yah, my wife baked an awesome Cookie Cake which got pounced on with vigor!
Congrats to Bob also knows as bb37. He was the winner of the Pro Development Book drawing. You done with that book yet Bob!? Maybe we'll get a book report from him at the next meeting?
__ PK showed off civic crm http://civicrm.org/ and an implementation of it that he created. He also shared his philosophy on collaboration and information management. I have encouraged PK to post some information on what's he's done and what he plans to do with it.
__ Aaron and I showed off some of the panels used on the site our employer is building. The conclusion was that some basic panels teaching would be appreciated.
__ We took a look at some of Bob's sites: http://hcars.org/ & http://w9nws.org/ & http://greatlakes-scca.org/
__ Tanisha mentioned that she was getting her skill sets up so that she could build a website for her church. Her son Trevon joined us as MOM wants him to start young. Way to go Tanisha! I wish my mom had dragged me to stuff like this when I was a kid!
__ Mike shared some of what he does with indyassociates.com as he helps people monetize their web presence and benefit from effective Web Marketing
__ Kevin shared some of his own insight into the world of online advertising and lead generating and confessed to having dabbled in Joomla for a while. He's loaded with Drupal Books and ready to do things the right way from now on! :-)
Again, thanks to all who came. And for those who didn't make it, we hope to catch you next time.

Meeting feedback

bb37's picture

First of all, I enjoyed the meeting and was a bit blown away by the Drupal experience in the room. Hopefully, we can all benefit from a sharing of ideas and these meetings are a good way to promote that kind of sharing.

Thanks to Doug for setting up the meeting, making the arrangements, and bringing the goodies. Doug, if all of that is coming out of your pocket, we may want to find some way to fund all of this. A contribution jar at the very least. And thanks to Mike and the folks at MWI for providing the meeting space. I didn't expect the computer museum.

Yes, I've thumbed through the book (thank you!), but there is a lot there to absorb. I'm still what I call a Drupal "user". I can set up a site, install some modules to make things work, install a theme, and do a slight bit of customization. But I am, by no means, an expert and this book is focused at folks who are writing modules, writing themes, hacking the database, etc. It'll be a while before I get to that level, but the book should give me some things to think about.

I have some thoughts about an "agenda" for future meetings:
-10-20 minutes talking about new developments in the Drupal world (new versions of Drupal or modules or themes that we are using)
-approx 20 minutes for a presentation from someone inside or outside the group (how I built my site, how I customized a theme, cool new module I wrote, my last visit to Drupalcon, etc.)
-rest of the time for a hands-on sharing of ideas (this could be a group session with a computer projected on the screen so we can all see what's going on or small groups huddled around computers--the idea is to help people work through issues and problems)

Doug, you're doing great just getting the meetings organized, but we need to keep looking down the road.

Bob...

Bob's Right.

dougvann's picture

Thnx Bob!
You're absolutely correct. We need to be thinking down the road. PK and I discussed this same topic in the #drupal-indy room of IRC the morning after the meeting. We had 6 or 7 ppl in the IRC room at one point. It was quite lively!
We decided that a intro to Drupal might be welcome.
I'll make a post about this "beginners class" later today or tomorrow.
