What would you most like to do first?

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

What would you like to see happen for a 'first' step? Some additional postings/discussions here on the group? A live chat of some kind? An actual in-person meeting? If so, would it just be to get to know each other or perhaps some kind of show-and-tell? What do you think we should do?

Comments

I'd love to hear from someone.

Any preferences, other options/ideas?

Thanks!

+1 Meetup

This online stuff is nice, but we have locality in our favor.

I would suggest we setup a date/time/location for the first Rochester/WNY Drupal Meetup. No agenda required, just informal way to get to know what others in the area are doing with Drupal.

Would also be good to do this before summer is in full swing.

Ok... wait... looking at doing a Drupal 4.7 -> 6.0 conversion for multiple hundreds of customers before summer hits. Anyone got any experience with that??? lol Might not be available until xmas.....

Wow

Impressive amount of sites. I hope you're running them multisite - I'm just a rookie, but I think that would make it easier? I'm also sure you already would think of this, but try to check the drupal site for some scripts and post some requests. I think Lullabot has a lot of experience porting, checking their forums may be worth it.

Weekends are best for me for a meeting.

Good Luck,
Imre

meetup quorum?

I'd also vote for a casual meetup. We could do a little polling and planning for any future events. We're all busy of course, but if we get enough heads, i think it'll be worth the effort. As long as there are snacks, I'm in.
The first place that comes to mind is Spot coffee in downtown Roch. I know that's a haul for you WNY guys- we could also consider someplace near/on RIT, since it is closer to the thruway and easy to find.

Location for Meetup

dccircuit's picture

I'm game for a meetup at somewhere like spot coffee or something like RIT. I know that we have a few RIT people in the group who might be able to help us out with a location... Plus there are a couple of more public areas on the campus where we could meet like a couple of food-service locations and a coffee shop or two (although I don't know their summer hours too well).

Also, I work at WXXI studios and we have several meeting rooms that we'd be able to open people up to... We're a little short on wireless access, however. We do have a least one room with a computer-equiped touch-screen projection system installed so we could look at sites through that. Meetings at WXXI would work out best to be meetings during the work-day, however.

Am I hearing right that a weekend would be best for this first meetup?

I vote for something during the week. With summer already here, the weekends are a precious commodity.

I think we should just pick something and go with it. The set-up at WXXI sounds good, the question with that I guess is whether or not people can swing the meeting during the work-day.

As a side-note, I went to Toronto over the weekend for their DrupalCamp and was quite impressed by what their local user group was able to do.

lunch gig?

mr_spark's picture

I'd be up for a lunch meetup. If we don't catch everyone this first time, we'll just have another one.
Weekends are kinda hit and miss, but with good weather here, I'm probably booked.

A friend of mine in Austin tells me how great their DUG is- so I'd be excited to see us get something rolling around here.

Andy - Pick a date/time

mkabot68's picture

Sounds like we have enough interest.

Andy - can you put up a poll with a couple dates a few weeks out that we can vote on to see how many can attend? Maybe a lunch time choice, after work on a weekday, and a Saturday morning.

I'd have to say that weekends are going to be tough this time of year to get everyone together. Lets see what the poll says !

knausz - yup, they are in multi-sites. Still lots of data to deal with though.
