There are regular meetups in Belfast, Dublin and Galway. Were it an option I'd really like to attend one, however as one of those down in the wilds of Cork they're all a bit to far. Would there be any interest in a meetup in Cork?
Though I'd have to confirm it with my boss I can probably offer a room with wifi, tables and chairs, tea/coffee and some limited parking (if the meetup occurs after work hours) where I work which is fairly convenient for the train and bus stations too: Google map of EIL Intercultural Learning, alternatively I'm sure we could find a good pub in Cork if it's more of a social thing, or use one of the internet cafes if we want to be a bit more public e.g. the WebWorkHouse on Winthrop street?
I've never actually been to a meetup, how do the other ones in Ireland work?

Hi Troodon, As one of the
Hi Troodon,
As one of the organisers of the Galway meetups, I can speak to our experience.
We've just recently got started again, and we're aiming for bimonthly on a regualar date. For us, its the last Thursday of the month, every 2 months [though the November meetup can't go ahead as neither myself and Lin can go, so we're waiting till January].
Format is simple, one or 2 presentations - a great way to practice a presentation in front of a smaller crowd, followed by general Drupal chit-chat.
Best of luck getting it going in Cork
Alan
Thank you.
Thank you.
Yeah!
I would definitely be interested in setting one up.
I'm from Cork originally but currently based in Maynooth. I'm not usually back in Cork during the week but would be happy to help in whatever way I can (and catch the occasional meetup!).
The Dublin meetups are mainly a social thing. We set a time each month (the Dublin one for example is the last Wednesday of every month) in the same location. We have the meetups after work-hours, at 7:00.
The Dublin one piggybacks on the Dublin PHP user-group. I don't know much about the PHP user-group meetup in Cork but I know they have one (on the last Wednesday of every month, same as Dublin) - http://www.php.ie/. Having the Drupal meetup an hour or so before the PHP meetup means that you get to have good numbers starting off.
To get the ball rolling why not have the first meet up before the PHP one in Cork. The Cork PHP meetup takes place in
The Gresham-Metropole Hotel, Cork City Centre, 8pm, last Wednesday of every month.
We could have the Drupal meetup at 7pm? We could email the Cork PHP user-group to let them know the plan (I'm sure they will be cool with it!)
What you think?
That sounds a good idea -
That sounds a good idea - though lets get a few views. Does the PHP group pay for a room from the Metropole or meet up in the bar?
good idea
Nice to see my native city organising a Drupal meetup.
Currently doing Drupal contract work in the UK
I'd be interested...
Of course, I've found out about last Wed of the month too late and the last Wed of Dec I won't be here and the last Wed of Jan seems a very long way off...
Drupalling for four years, starting in London, now in Cork (via a few other places..)
Well, nothing to stop us
Well, nothing to stop us getting together at some point in mid December, then start something more regular to sync up with the php meetings from January onwards?
Good plan
Friday evenings no good for me but any other weekday fine, up until 16th.
I'd be interested but I'm not
I'd be interested but I'm not an expert in Drupal (though I've been programming for 20 years).
Fergal
Count me in
I'd be interested in meeting up. Any mid week evening suits.
How about Thursday 9th at 7.30?
I propose a city centre hostelry in, e.g. Oliver Plunkett St or MacCurtain St.
Any preferences/suggestions?
My wife has a Yoga Centre on
My wife has a Yoga Centre on McCurtain Street (http://www.wellwithin.ie/directions.htm) and I could host an evening meeting so long as it didn't clash with Yoga Classes. There's Wifi if needed available via an internet shop downstairs. It might not be as much fun as going to a pub but I thought I'd offer.
Fergal
If people would prefer...
If people would prefer a pub, please just say so...
Fergal's kind offer is kind, but it isn't a pub, and I'm sure he won't be offended by those who would prefer a pub... :-)
I certainly wouldn't be
I certainly wouldn't be offended. I'm fond of pubs myself ;-)
So.... In the longer term
So....
In the longer term sync with the PHP group, but this month: mid week, pub, before the 16th?
So how does 7pm Wednesday 15th sound (not this Wednesday, but the next one)? Anyone who might want to go not able to do so?
Any suggestions as to which pub/bar/etc?
Looks like it may be just you and me...
unless some others respond.
I have no objection to meeting just you, but more would be nice...
Tonight's obviously not gooing to happen...
...so who else is up for the plan of Wed 15th?
I'm in.
I've added it to the front
I've added it to the front page of the Ireland group. Just let me know where it is on and I'll update the info and also include it in the monthly mail.
Well the mail had to go out
Well the mail had to go out so I put in a link to this discussion and said venue TBD.
Thank you Stella. So we've
Thank you Stella.
So we've got a time and date, how about a place?
I propose An Bodhran, Oliver Plunket St
But, people, be quick about responding - I don't plan to be there alone....
An Bodhran, 7pm Wednesday
An Bodhran, 7pm Wednesday 15th it is then (at least for this month, if there's on going interest we can always agree on some other location/time if desired).
I'll be there at 7pm...
You have a recognition aid for me but I have no idea what the rest of you look like, so I'll wait for you to approach me... :-)

Best of luck tonight
Hope it all goes well tonight! Will be at the Dublin meetup but will raise a toast to the inaugural Cork meetup. You can be sure I will be wearing red and drinking Beamish.
Thanks, if there's interest
Thanks, if there's interest next year hopefully we can sync location and times up with the PHP group meetups.
How did it go?
Hi. Just wondering how the meetup went?
Any plans for the New Year?
Well, it was just me and troodon
...but we had a good chat.
Actually, haven't heard from troodon since, so he may not have enjoyed it as much as I did ... :-)
Seems the plan is to join with the PHP meetup in the Met Bar on the 26th.
Who knows anything about this?
Glad to hear it went
Glad to hear it went well!
Last time I checked the Cork PHP meetup takes place in
The Gresham-Metropole Hotel, Cork City Centre, 8pm, last Wednesday of every month.
I can't find any info about it online now. I have tweeted PHP Ireland to see if they know anything more about it.
Hello, Sorry for being AWOL:
Hello,
Sorry for being AWOL: haven’t been terribly well. Would certainly be interested in meeting up again and scheduling it to synch up with the PHP group meeting.
OK, and who else?
OK, I'll be there - and who else?
Im afraid I wont be able to
Im afraid I wont be able to make this one.
Hope meeting up with the PHP guys proves interesting.
Well, it was just me...
Hung around until 8.30 but nobody PHP-looking showed up.
Plus, the bar is horrid...
Sorry to hear that. I have
Sorry to hear that.
I have tried to get in touch with the PHP Ireland about the Cork meetup (see if it is still on, etc.) but have not heard anything. I should have asked some of the PHP crowd at the Dublin meetup last night if they knew anything about the Cork branch.
On the plus side I guess it means their is a blank canvas for future meetups! No need to be tied to the awful bar.
meetup
@hardieas, sorry to hear that. I just found this thread. I am interested but under pressure at the moment (new baby anyday). But I would definitely in interested in a meetup maybe April time on....
And this month?
Front page says there's a meetup on March 30th.
Anyone know anything about this?
I don't know anything in
I don't know anything in particular about it. I am, however, round Cork and would be interested in meeting up if people were around.
Any suggestions for a venue?
Lets do this!
I am going to be at An Bodhran, 7pm Wednesday this month 27th April. I'm back round Cork so if there is anyone around to meet up that would be great.
When will be meeting?
Is any meeting planned?
Gone from Ireland
Dear all
Forgot to let you know that I have now left Ireland so obviously won't be able to organise or participate in any more Cork meetups...
Cheers
Andrew
