Discussion: Galway Drupal Meet-Up - what to talk about?

For the last 3 Galway Drupal Meetups we have basically sat around and discussed whatever came up.

Whilst this was very enjoyable and we all learned "something", we wish to have things a little more structured. To start this process off, we are trying to establish two things:

1) A presentation for each meetup
2) Someone to give the presentation

This thread is an attempt to begin the discussion about "What would YOU like to hear about/present on at Galway Drupal Meetups?". Some topics that came up at the last meeting:

Is there any interest in a Cork monthly meetup?

There are regular meetups in Belfast, Dublin and Galway. Were it an option I'd really like to attend one, however as one of those down in the wilds of Cork they're all a bit to far. Would there be any interest in a meetup in Cork?

Carpooling to Ballyvaughan

Hello,

been thinking about how some people are hoping to get to Ballyvaughan this Friday, Saturday or Sunday. If anyone is driving with space in their car for a passanger or two, it would be great if they posted where they are coming from, where they think they'll pass through and at what time they're planning to depart for Ballyvaughan.

DrupalCamp Ballyvaughan (Clare, Ireland) 15th & 16th of May 2010

The Burren College of Art, Ballyvaughan, Co. Clare have kindly offered space to host this summer's DrupalCamp in Ireland. Wi-Fi, a large gallery space, a lecture theatre, a seminar room and cafeteria are available both days. And come evening we can enjoy some great restaurants and bars in the village, which also has several hotels, B&Bs and self catering cottages in which to stay. On top of that, it's set in the unique Burren landscape, looking out over Galway Bay. Doolin, Lahinch and Kinvara are nearby, so if you want to make a proper break of it and come earlier or stay on after the camp, there's lots to see and do.

If you're keen to help out in any way, please don't be shy, do let us know. What we really need now are for people to volunteer to give presentations on any aspect of Drupal for either absolute beginners or seasoned developers.

dynamic link with diaspora

This hasn't been specced out yet in any detail I'd imagine. But did anyone else who read this article by Paul Cullen about proposals from the Global Irish Economic Forum at Farmleigh in the Phoenix Park, think Drupal might be part of one possible solution?

a “Gateway Ireland” online portal to link Ireland and the diaspora

Minister for Foreign Affairs Micheál Martin.

Any theming expert in Galway area?

Hi.

I was wondering if there is any theming expert in the Galway area.

I have to do a custom theme, and have a few problems.

Guess a 2 hour meeting will be more than enough.

Anyone?

Thanks.

Shay.

dublincycling.ie uses Drupal

The new drupal based website for the Dublin Cycling Campaign has just been launched.
http://www.dublincycling.ie/

All feedback is very welcome and if you happen to be interested, the next open meeting is 7pm, Monday 14th September, 2009 in the Smock Alley Café, Temple Bar, Dublin 2. They'll also be sharing a stand with a number of cycling groups at the Electric Picnic in the Global Green area if anyone is passing.

Huge thanks to Stella who answered a considerable number of questions when development was beginning and to the drupal community at large.

Does Drupal Need a Push in Ireland

I have a question regarding the uptake of Drupal in Ireland. It seems (IMHO) that there is no significant awareness of Drupal as a platform in Ireland. Obviously the members of this group are aware of the benefits of the platform but in honesty is the business community / IT community at large aware of the Drupal name and the many benefits that can be leveraged from using it.

I was considering setting up http://www.drupal.ie as a place to promote Drupal in Ireland

Last saturday Alan and I went down to the BarCamp South East in Waterford. We did a presentation of Drupal, Alan went through the benefits of Drupal for a website, and I showed how to install Drupal 5 in couple of minutes.
