Copyright lines on source files

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Sometimes I see that some people add copyright lines(as number of developers) to the first comment block of a source file.

I am wondering if that is the right way to do it, I mean, should I be doing that?(I guess not since big projects like views are not doing it) If not, can I delete that lines? (moving them to README.txt or somethign like that, naturally)

I also see that drupal project itself use a COPYRIGHT.txt, should I do that in my modules?

LICENSE.txt is automatically added to release packages, so license is clear, but I am wondering if I should be specific about copyright in files.

Hi I have the same question. Where is standard place to document copyright?

No official standard

There is no official standard at present, for better or worse.

If you want to list major contributors, I would recommend either doing so in README.txt (fairly common) or in a dedicated COPYRIGHT.txt file. Either one should be OK. Doing so is not currently required by Drupal.org guidelines, although I have questioned whether or not it should be.
