I'm actually a Boston ex-patriot. Lived there for 12 years, but I'm in Providence now. We try and convince ourselves that we're "near" Boston (an hour away), but let's face it, we're not Bostonians. But yes, I'm in the area and will happily drive in when we schedule a meet-up.
Good to hear. Calendar is one module that I tweak quite a bit. I don't quite like some of what it does. For instance, lising how many days or hours left to an event is useless. Override that with a theme.
Yup, that's me. This users group is nice. I am a one-person operation (maybe you are too) and so it would be nice to meet up with other people doing web sites.
I am in Amherst. I have been doing web development since 1999, after we sold the boat business that I was running for 18 years (Newport, RI) to these guys: http://www.hinckleyyachts.com who remain my largest client.
Since 1999 I focused on Active Server Pages, with most sites using Access for a database - I also do a lot of Flash work. But now I am interested in moving to PHP/MySQL, in part because of the great CMS systems for PHP, liek Drupal (which there doesn't seem to be for ASP), and also to get more into MySQL, which of course is way superior to Access, but not expensive like SQL Server. So, I am new to both PHP and Drupal. But PHP and ASP seem pretty similar in many ways, so it's been pretty easy to understand so far.
I am really impressed with Drupal, and also with the Civic Space distribution. I just have to dive in and learn how to custom theme Drupal, and other such stuff.
I also looked at Joomla (fork of Mambo) which has a much better "GUI" - much more polished look - but I think Drupal is a better base platform for web developers to create what they want to from it. Joomla is maybe betetr for an "out of the box" thing.
Hello. I'm a total drupal beginner, just learning about drupal and Civic Space and other open source projects for the first time and getting excited. I'm trying to come up with a database and website solution for what will hopefully become a national criminal justice reform project, and am anxious to learn more about drupal uses in the non-profit world. I'm in Northampton, so if Drupal meet ups started up, I would love to be a fly on the wall.
Thanks,
lauren
I'm here in Amherst Mass, and posted a Western Massachusetts group when this Drupal Groups site first went online. I just took a look and saw a few subscribers.
I'm not an advanced Drupal user, but have set it up on many sites. I would like to learn more about module development. I use Drupal for most sites, and a bit of WordPress. Also experimenting with Django (Python). It would be great to meet other people in the area who are using Drupal.

"Hey, I know you. You're the lullabot guy."
Good work. Didn't know you are in the Boston area. What town?

I'm in Westfield, MA
93 miles west down the Turnpike. Having a Western Mass. meetup would be very lonely for me. So Boston it is for me, too.
Is Moshe organizing a meetup soon? I went to one last year when Chris Messina blew into town.
Hi Steve
Hi Steve,
We "know" each other from that calendar project.
I was finally able to install Drupal, and I am diving into it.
Cya,
Rick
Rick Hood?

Yes, Rick Hood is me

Anyhow...hope to meet you at this meeting.
Welcome to the Western Mass. Drupal club
There are two of us now. I will probably be at the next meeting. See you there.
