I'm trying to create a site using taxonomy term pages with panels and views as described in this fantastic Drupaleasy blog post:

I've managed now to set-up the site so that all content is automatically categorised onto individual pages according to its taxonomy term so I'm all good there. The problem I'm having is in creating a panel which will display all of the term descriptions of for the children of any given top-level term.
For example my site using the following taxonomy to categorize contracts undertaken by the company (my custom content type):
Contracts (vocab)
-Marine Contracts
--Pier Refurbishments
--Marina Construction
-Onshore Contracts
--House Building
--Commercial Buildings
Now what I'd like to do is have a page (panel) at the URL www.mysite.co.uk/contracts/marine-contracts which displays the taxonomy descriptions for Pier Refurbishments and Marina Construction (as well as the images I've attached using taxonomy image module).
To try and achieve this I created a view which outputs all of the taxonomy terms and descriptions. I then added another context taxonomy term panel to display this view. I was then hoping that I could use arguments so that only the appropriate trems and descriptions were shown according to the page you were on.
e.g. when I'm on www.mysite.co.uk/contracts/marine-contracts it shows the Piers and Marina Construction term descriptions, and when I'm on www.mysite.co.uk/contracts/onshore-contracts it shows the house and commercial buildings term descriptions.
At the moment I can get it to show either all the taxonomy term descriptions (from both levels), or just the top level taxonomy description (e.g. marine construction)
I'm aware I could do this view more views and panels etc but I want to build the site in such a way that it grows organically as new terms are added.
Please help, this is starting to slowly kill me. I've tried so many different combinations of views, arguments, contexts etc etc and read through millions of blog posts but still no joy!
