User group meeting

The fifth Tampa Bay Drupal meetup is coming up on January 6th.

Last meetup, we went over some of the basics of theming (notes here). This month I was supposed to go over the basics of using the views module. Somehow I failed to recall that I'm going to be traveling during this time frame. So we need to rally together to find another topic and presenter for January. Sorry to shake things up, but with all the new faces, we're bound to have some other topics/presenters! I'll be more than happy to revisit the views discussion in February.

Following whatever presentation we can get lined up, we'll have a general discussion and attempt to answer any questions people may have in general, or specific to something they're working on.

The meeting is scheduled for 6:00 PM - 7:30 PM, and the location is at the Panera on Ulmerton Road:
2285 Ulmerton Rd.
Clearwater, FL 3376

There is a $50 charge to use their meeting room, but any food purchases are deducted from this cost, so come hungry (for food as well as Drupal knowledge)!

Look forward to seeing everyone there.

If you have any requests or comments for the meetup, please feel free to mention below in the comments.

Drupal 7 Release Party

Since our meeting is so close to the Drupal 7 Release Party, and the original presentation has been rescheduled, what do you think of moving it to the next day (Fri, Jan. 7th) to co-ordinate with D7 release?

Of course, someone(s) would still have to prepare for the launch party. I will be out of town until only a few days before and probably wouldn't be able to help much. Just throwing it out there to see what everyone thinks.

Even if we keep it on Jan 6th (not sure about availability at Panera) we can do a "pre" Launch Party....

That's true. No reason why we

That's true. No reason why we could do it on the 6th. Also a good point on the availability of Panera, my guess it that there's a good chance it might be reserved already.

What is the interest level on having a D7 launch 'party'?

Seems like a natural replacement topic

I won't be able to be there, as stated already, but if I were I'd be into it. Pretty topical. Just need someone who's played with it, or maybe everyone could go through an install of the latest beta if you do it the day before.

If it does go on, I'll definitely be interested to read the meeting recap!

Hey! Just noticed we have a

Hey! Just noticed we have a Tampa Bay meet up....I work right across from Panera. I'll signup and try and make it for sure. I've been launching new sites for a financial company this year...

Topic for meeting?

hot_sauce's picture

Do we have any volunteers for the topic of discussion at this week's meeting? I know a lot of the regulars won't make it but wasn't sure if anyone had stepped up to fill Chris' shoes for this.

If anyone has anything that they want to share that hasn't been covered then please volunteer! Worst case scenario I can present again but I need to know if anyone else is willing to present before I try to plan or come up with something.

Thanks!

Going with Drupal 7 coming out

I would be happy to do a review of Drupal 7 - just a short overview of the big changes in the UI

Sounds good!

Thanks for volunteering Joe! Unless someone else has any ideas, I think a short D7 intro would be good.

Recap?

How'd the meeting go? Did you all get to take a look at the new face of Drupal?

Drupal 7

I did do a demo of Drupal 7 I think it went pretty well (but I like the sound of my voice). I didn't really have a script but we went through a fresh install and just reviewed each menu item - comparing to D6.

Also had another good size group.

See you in Feb

Great to see 7, but have specific questions on 6

willow315's picture

Sorry to introduce this here, but maybe you can suggest where I can post specific issues I'm having, but cannot find assistance with elsewhere. It was nice to get an overview of 7, but I'm still stuck in 6, and will be for a while!

Have a couple of issues that have come up on two different sites, and some of it has to do with customizations that were made before I began working on our main site. Is it OK to introduce a new discussion in the Central Florida Group?

I couldn't even find this string, looking in Central Florida, which is where the Tampa group is, but have noticed that there are mostly meeting announcements in all group areas.

If I could get the email list of folks in our Tampa group, I could email directly, and not clutter up the groups notices.

Thanks, WCW

No need to be sorry

The Florida group is a perfectly acceptable place to ask questions. I haven't seen too many as of late, but there have certainly been questions asked on here. As liberatr mentioned, just start a new "Discussion" thread and ask away. If people can help, they will chime in. And you will have more exposure/potential for help than just the folks from the Tampa Meetup as well.

And the reason this event doesn't show up under central Florida is because I made it. And am still relatively new to Florida, and don't know what is considered what location wise round these parts yet. So for the following meetup events I'll be sure to tag them with "central florida", as I'm sure you're not the only one searching for that!

I think it's perfectly

I think it's perfectly acceptable to make support requests on the Florida group. Start a new thread and see if anyone jumps in.
