Hey guys,

Many thanks to our friends at Affinity Lab for letting us use their space! I not only had a great time, but was able to get a lot done while getting to know many of you better.

In fact, since I had such a good time, let's have another meetup! I think it'd be awesome if we had one on May 12th. There (may even have been / was) mention of one on May 12th, but figured I'd throw this out there just in case something's changed.

Well, ladies and gents, it's been a pleasure, and I look forward to seeing you all soon!

Oh, and that error I was getting on the Forums was a result of the .htaccess file, not necessarily Drupal. Things are fixed now and it's running beautifully! Thanks to everyone who pitched in, esp Vijay.

Ciao for now,
Brian

Meetup on May 12th

What time are you thinking about having the meetup? I'm actually in Santa Cruz but will be traveling back in DC to visit family and will be in town May 12th. I'm only there for a short time, but depending on the time, may be able to make it for the meet up.

We've been planning on setting up a Drupal meetup for Monday, May 12, and unfortunately it's taken a little longer than I hoped to nail down the details. But this is great motivation to fix that.

The next Drupal Meetup will be this coming Monday from 7:00 - 9:00 pm at Stetson's Bar and Restaurant, right at the intersection of 16th and U streets. We'll be in the private room upstairs. Come out to meet other Drupal developers and users and see the latest tools everyone has been working on.

As usual, we'll kick off the meeting with several 5-minute lightening round talks. This is your chance to share the latest tool you built, talk about your new website, or just pose a question to the group. Since people with varying levels of Drupal knowledge (pros, newbies, and users), please keep your talk focused on the big picture and out of all the Drupal jargon. If you want to get into that, come out for the next Drupal Lab at the end of the month.

If you want to give a talk, post your topic here or come ready to talk. We'll be posting a few of our ideas here later this week.

Announce ChinaOpen/ChinaOSL

john.zhu's picture

We would like to take the opportunity on Monday to officially announce ChinaOSL (previously codenamed as ChinaOpen). Hopefully by then, we will also have the official web-site up-and-running too, which is Drupal + Flex, via Services.

The technology nuances notwithstanding, we will begin to solicit ideas/projects of building web-sites for the duration of ChinaOSL, which will be a 2-months long, code-camp in Beijing this Olympic summer, with 50-200 Chinese students. They will be assigned to work on various projects, such as yours, for free.

While originally planned on providing for non-profit projects only, as outlined in the original thread http://groups.drupal.org/node/10770, we now will accept both For-Profit as well as the non-profits, with a full official approval process. We will explain this process on Monday as well. And just for be sure, we are NOT competing against DROP, in fact, our goal is to get the chinese up-to-speed that they can graduate into DROP (say by the end of the year), simply because Drupal (as you can imagine), is not widely known in China yet.

In the meantime, we are working to hold ChinaOSL on a rotational schedule, to hit at least 5 top-ranking Chinese universities, so as to cultivate the spirit of Open, inspire creativity and innovation of the Chinese engineering students, for the better – of all.

Finally, if there is one thing I can ask for your help, that would be your opinion on the "PR words" for the Chinese students during the campaign:
1. “Conscientious, Inspiration and Change”, or simply
2. “Do something good; do something better”

谢谢/Thank you, and see you on Monday.

I'd be happy to explain how we only have 8 views powering http://www.mothersclick.com/ and how we created a "views extend" system to dynamically build another 16 views.
