Hello all,
I wanted to share an interesting result of some research we just completed on how Foundations are (or are not) using Open Source CMSs, like Drupal to power their own websites. This really was a tangent of another report we're working on but we found it interesting enough to share on our blog.
Our curiosity lead us to look at the top 885 Foundations with websites (based on endowment size), and we used a browser plug-in to determine how the sites were built. We were able to clearly identify the technology powering 478 of the 885 Foundation websites (54%).
When we looked at just the largest 500 Foundations, Drupal doubles Wordpress instances, and Joomla is right on the heals of Wordpress. However, the proprietary web framework ASP.net still powers the highest number of sites.
Pretty interesting stuff, and what I expect is the beginning of a sea-change, as more Foundations (and of course, non-profits) get turned on to Drupal as an open source alternative.
