Join us as we resume our Drupal Dojo sessions on Tuesday, April 12th from 6pm to 9pm(ish). Our office turns into the training group for all those seeking to become a Drupal 7 ninja.

What's Boston Drupal 7 Dojo?

Boston Drupal 7 Dojo is a weekly opportunity to get together with other folks in the local Drupal community to learn, design, and develop D7 sites.

We going to work on D7 projects only so we can all learn together from a developer, designer, admin, and site builder perspective. We may choose a charity or non-profit organization in need of a new website as something we all can work on together.

For the first part of our meetup, we can present something interesting about working on a D7 project. Details are in the making as far as our format.

The word Dojo (道場) captures what we're trying to create -- a place to practice and master one's art. Think of it as a place to become a Drupal blackbelt, a Drupal Ninja.

When?

Second and fourth Tuesdays of the month starting at 6:30p.

Where?

MassChallenge Office, One Marina Park Drive, 14th Floor, Boston, MA 02210. Near the ICA

Map: http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=1+Marina+Par...

Our location is near the Institute for Contemporary Art and there's street parking available plus a paid parking garage.

Thanks to our generous host, Social Contxt: http://socialcontxt.com

Details:

We will focus on theming/building/development on D7 projects only. We will cover all the basics of planning, designing, and building a Drupal-powered website.

We order pizza for each Dojo. If you would like food, please bring $8 (exact change please) to contribute to the order.

Since we are all volunteers running Dojo and there's plenty of room to help:

  • Clean-up
  • Food ordering
  • Note taking
  • Video to add to main Dojo site: http://drupaldojo.com/
  • Communication with sister-city Dojos
  • Curriculum development-add to the materials on the Dojo format
  • Help with posting event on Boston Group Page

No Dojo 3/22?

Sue Mildrum's picture

I just wanted to confirm that we are not having a Dojo tomorrow, 3/22. I had it in my calendar so want to be sure either way.

Thanks!

zfactor's picture

Hey folks,

I just wanted to remind you all that tonight we reconvene the meeting of aspiring Drupal ninjas for the Boston Drupal Dojo. If you can make it out, please make sure to RSVP by 4pm today so we can add you to the security list.

Thanks!

RSVP

This is the first I have heard about the need to RSVP. How do you do that?

Signups closed for this event

ssg13565's picture

I noticed that signups are closed for this event. Does this mean that there is no point in me traveling into Boston from Sturbridge to attend this event. Since I have to leave Strurbridge at 4:00PM to make the 6:00PM meeting, please let me know before then if it will be pointless to make the trip.

Try again. This should be all

Try again. This should be all set.

Conference Organizing Distribution

susan macphee's picture

Our Dojo project, launching Drupal Design Camp Boston 2012 with COD Distribution: http://drupal.org/project/cod http://usecod.com/

on Acquia servers: http://acquia.com/products-services/managed-cloud

Note:
Dev Cloud currently uses SVN for code deployment. We can use the git to svn bridge to push changes from git to SVN. Native git support for Dev Cloud is coming soon.

Our mission will be to get COD installed and set up users and server permissions workflow. We need help from Dojo to use SVN to connect with servers.

I'll work on getting the access info.

The COD distribution is built by:

Ezra Gildesgame http://drupal.org/user/69959

Greg Knaddison http://drupal.org/user/36762

and the rest of the gang at: http://growingventuresolutions.com/

We thank them for their hard work and will help them move to D7 as part of our process of learning D7 and as it compares to D6

This is fantastic. It has

This is fantastic. It has been great to follow the activities of the Boston Dojo on G.D.O.

If there are things that we can do to make the Drupal Kata a better place for managing Drupal Learning Projects, we'd love to explore them. Ultimately we look forward to expanding the Drupal Dojo to be a broader Drupal Learning Resource Center and it would be great to capture key takeaways, lessons learned, tips and tricks, best practices etc in the Drupal Kata until we have a better depository within the Dojo.

The Seattle Barn-Raising project is moving right along. I'm not sure if it is helpful to see how others are using the Drupal Kata to manage Drupal Learning Projects but it would be great to continue to expand this model.

Additional permissions are required for some functionality--if we haven't already we should promote a couple of people on your team so that they can manage the group.

To reiterate what I mentioned during the February meeting... while you may want to keep your activities focused on your in-person Dojo sessions, if you get to the point where you are collaborating virtually, you should also feel free to use the #drupal-dojo IRC channel. This channel is archived which can be a handy reference tool. In addition to the IRC channel, we should also be able to schedule time for use of the Dojo's GoToMeeting space if you get to a point where that would be helpful.

I think it would be fantastic to have your group recap what you have learned periodically, either as a simple screen capture posted to http://DrupalDojo.com or as a live Dojo webinar--you need only to sign up on the DrupalDojo Webinar Line-up wiki

It was a pleasure meeting many of you back in February and in Chicago. Best of luck with this project. I wish I could be there to work with your group.

Thanks Eric!

Hello,

The signups are still closed for this event, they seem to have been closed all day. Is it too late to signup?

Thanks,

There seems to be a bug with

There seems to be a bug with the event signups. Everytime I set the event to open, the setting resets to close. If you want to be added to the list, just add your name to the comments.

Maybe next time

ssg13565's picture

Sorry, this information came too late for me to risk a 4 hour round trip on the possibility that I might not be able to get into the meeting.

Although I do have experience installing three sites with Drupal 7, I had hoped I might learn something and get to discuss the frustrations with the lagging modules that are not yet ready for Drupal 7.

Is the Dojo even the right forum for my expectations?

next time

susan macphee's picture

Hi ssg13565,

We are underway with a COD distribution project for Drupal Design Camp Boston and it's in D6. Our thoughts are that we take our working knowledge in D6 and study how D7 projects will differ and if we can help COD distribution move into D7.

We may fork the group for D7 basics in near future.

If you are frustrated about modules not ready for D7, any discussion of it at the Dojo would be how to help module creators go into a development release for D7. We suggest you go into the issue ques of modules you want ready for 7 and see if you can help.

So stay tuned for our next announcement and see if it's of interest to you. We don't mind observers if we are just a project based session.

Susan
