Twitter Information

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

Especially for PK's benefit, I thought I'd post this Twitter writeup I just happened upon. By the way, I'm with PK on this one. Why would I spend the time and effort on yet another social networking site? It gets to be too much after a while.

Having said that, I'm sure it must be very useful for some people. Maybe I'm just getting old!

Twitter is the REASON Al Gore Invented the Internet!!

dougvann's picture

The subject of my post is:
"Twitter is the REASON Al Gore Invented the Internet!!"
OK. I'm just kidding and I hope no one believes that tall tale. But here's what I DO believe.
I believe that I follow 109 people and 116 people follow me. I believe that the vast majority of TWEETS are dismissible "Cyber-Waste" that does not deserve my time.
But what about the minority that I find very useful? That's where the gold is. I liken it into a 49er in the GoldRush. Panning through the dirt and sand looking for a nugget. Mind you, I don't follow people who use twitter for SPAM, nor do I follow people who TWEET nothing but their favorite youtube videos about American Idol or whatever.
Who Do I Follow?
I follow all of the Lullabots: They have some silly tweets, but I feel like I have spent so much time with them that I am getting an update from a good friend. Most of their tweets are about Drupal-resources or something geeky enough that I can find it useful.
I follow many people who use Drupal: Themers, module maintainers, Drupal bloggers, Drupal developers: Do I have to explain how useful that is? It's AWESOME! Yes I get many tweets from them about how they need their coffee in the morning OR why they hate rainy days or traffic jams... BUT when they share Excellent Drupal Related info... GOLD!
I follow people who live in my community: Some are Drupalers, some are WP fans. Some can barely turn a computer on. They see me TWEET and they know what I do for a living. Sometimes they TWEET questions and I answer them. See what I am doing here? It's called networking.
I COULD spend 3+ hours a day troling thru twitter but i don't. I try to follow as many ppl as I can honestly relate to.
Twitter is a tool for business and keeps me connected to people I have met as I have traveled coast to coast this year and to Toronto.
It works for me BUT it is not for everyone.

TwitterFox saves me a lot of time

dudenhofer's picture

I have downloaded Twitterfox for Firefox and to tell you the truth, that's the only reason I use Twitter. I set up an account a long time ago, but just couldn't keep up because I had to go there and sign in and update and see what everyone is doing....

But with Twitterfox, I can see how many posts there are that I haven't read, and I can scan over them every once in a while to catch the interesting ones. You can even make your posts right there without leaving the page you're on.
Quick and efficient... and in the loop.
