It works from the gallery2 page and not from the embedded page. I posted about his issue originally on the gallery2 forum which can be found here:

The above link gives all the details and the troubleshooting that has been done so far. It looks like that drupal is dropping the ball. any help or pointers is highly appreciated.
Thanks.

jQuery conflict?
Drupal sometimes gets heavy with jQuery modules, and they can conflict with external machines. Try calling the slideshow to a drupal page with no blocks on it for starters, switch to Garland theme, then look at possible sources of jQuery conflict, they happen.
webmayin, Thanks
webmayin, Thanks for the quick reply.
The current installed version of jQuery is 1.2.6. I had installed the lightbox module a few months ago and it required a jquery-update. That's why right from the beginning of installing drupal-gallery and gallery2, I've been thinking of uninstalling the lightbox module and rolling back the jquery-update.
I'll see how it goes.
Also I had tried with Ajaxian theme and the slideshow plays well in that theme (but that kind of slideshow isn't what we're looking for).
Could you also please elaborate on your suggestion of a page with no blocks (I'm fairly new to Drupal)?
