Hey programmers and designers are you not satisfied with politics as usual? Come help us create something better!
Create Open Source Advocacy tools for Non-Profits!
Remote access will be available!
Come gather with us for a weekend of coding and fun! Stop by for a few hours or play with us all weekend long. We'll have activities and surprises every few hours to keep everyone in motion.
The goal here is to quickly implement some new features in Drupal (www.drupal.org) These modules will be of use to many nonprofit organizations, and in particular will help kick start the League of Technical Voters web interface. The League of Technical Voters is an organization based on the idea that geeks, who are not often politically active, can be a powerful force for change for the better. These tools will be used to help bring politicians, geeks, and the media together in an effective manner.
We'll start things off on Friday from 7-10pm with some short classes to introduce PHP-based Drupal and its structure. Then teams will select modules and features and run off to design and build them. We need a wide range of programming abilities, as some modules only need to be incorporated into
the website structure, some need to be fixed, while others need to be written from scratch. This is free form built on the concepts from barcamp.org
We will also need designers for the website itself. They will be meeting this Saturday the 1st at Spiderhouse 6PM to discuss preliminary design issues. And then finalizing some design issues on Friday the 13th from 6-10pm. Some designers will also hang around on Saturday the 14th to help out the programmers with accessibility issues! (one of our goals is to make the pre-existing code base handicapped accessible.)
There will be plenty food, drink and entertainment all day and through the night.
This is a BYOlaptop event! We will have tools and environment CDs ready for Mac, PC and Linux.
Join us, and help change the world!

The Austin, Texas Drupal group...
Howdy y'all! (That's Texan for "Hello to all of you!" ;) )
On behalf of all Texans, I want to extend a warm welcome to all participants traveling to Austin for this worthwhile and fun event! Although I live in Austin, I will unfortunately be out of town for part of the October 13-15 weekend. Otherwise, I would definitely have enjoyed meeting all of you!
If any of the Austin and Central Texas Drupal users/developers would like to join the Austin, Texas Drupal group, that would be great! If you haven't already joined and if you live in Central Texas, please add yourself to the Austin Drupal group today!
I tried getting the Austin Drupal group going back in July 2006 but there was no real interest. Almost three months later, I'm again throwing out a line to see if there is any interest. If we get a few people interested in the Austin Drupal group, maybe we can meet up for a beer or some good ol' Tex-Mex in November or December and see what the other Austin Drupal users are doing. I'd like to start meeting with fellow Drupalers in the Austin area at least once every few months.
