Should we somehow restrict posting/membership for this group?

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

I just untagged two posts in this group that had nothing to do with the d.o themes. Given the name of this group, it's easy to see why people are confused and think this is a general-purpose discussion group for themes (and theme-related jobs sigh). I know we want to keep all the redesign efforts open and all that, but it'd sure be nice to keep this group useful for the task at hand, which it quickly will not become if everyone and their dog starts posting jobs in here, and general discussion of themes, etc. Seems like we should probably do one or more of the following:

A) Rename the group to something more specific (will only moderately help, if at all).

B) Make group membership require approval.

C) Find a team of volunteers that monitors the group and removes bogus posts. This isn't great since the emails will already have gone out, and since it sucks valuable time from the volunteers this group is trying to coordinate in the first place.

D) Have all posts to this group start out in a moderation queue. Not sure if OG supports this as a per-group configuration or how easy it'd be to add. This also has the drawback of requiring someone to review the moderation queue.

E) Completely ignore the problem and watch this group's usefulness shrink (plummet?) over time.

Any other possible solutions?

What do folks think we should do?

I'd probably vote for at least (B), maybe with (A) thrown in for good measure.

Not a bad idea

I often (regrettably) unsubscribe from groups as the signal to noise ratio is too often leaning to the noise side. It's for this reason that I am in favor of items A, B, C and indifferent to D.

Erm...

I think you got the order correct to begin with. Let's rename it, and if that doesn't solve the problem, then make membership require approval. Many of the people who want to be here were invited anyway, so you could probably name it "ASDF" and we'd just have the people we want. That's not a particularly useful name, so why don't we contemplate a few name changes. My list of hopefully "better" names:

"D.O Main Theme Redesign"
"D.O Theme Redesign"

I dunno, just some suggestions.

I think there is a decent

I think there is a decent chance the offtopic postings will slow or stop if we remove this group from the public directory and searches. It would still be open and unmoderated. We have 'theme developers' in the title and 72 members, that is appealing someone looking for a quick hire or question. We can also put a link to http://groups.drupal.org/theme-development in the orange box.

What I see is an epidemic of cross-postings

Especially the job postings. But afaik there is no way in the current configuration to limit posts to a single group.

Kieran renamed

Kieran just renamed the group to "Drupal.org redesign theme implementers", which should hopefully help. I am removing all offtopic posts.
