Online groups are quickly becoming a staple of church sites. Some churches are using CMS, like drupal and the organic groups module, to build their groups while others use sites like Church Community Builder to manage their members and provide online groups.
Looking at how some of these groups are setup I notice a number of differences in information architecture. Some of the different IAs are fairly good and meet the needs to of the average user. Others suffer from missing features or are difficult for the average user to find what they are looking for.
When it comes to groups information architecture what aspects do you think should be there, how do you think they should be laid out, and how should they be worded and configured?
For example, take this churches group on g.d.o. One of the things I see missing is an accessible link to a group calendar of events. While this may not be important to the kinds of groups that are typically on g.d.o I can see them as being important to most local church groups.
Another example, that can easily be debated, is naming schemes for URLs. Say you have a groups at example.com/group/mygroup. Should a link to an event be at example.com/group/mygroup/event/title or at example.com/event/title with a breadcrumb pointing back to the group?
I'm curious what your preferences are and why. Thoughts?

We really need a Forum for
We really need a Forum for our small group leaders.
What app can folks recommend that provides basic features, is simple to administer, and is reliable?
If I can ever find time I will be rebuilding our site using Drupal 6 under our new church name and in the meanwhile may need to implement a Forum app on our existing site.

How does this relate to groups?
I'm curious how this relates to groups? Are you thinking there should be forums attached to groups? Or, are you thinking there should be a forum for group leaders separate from the groups? Would it be better to have a private group just for group leaders?

I wanted our small group
I wanted our small group leaders to meet monthly in
their own small group but their schedules make more
than quarterly gathering difficult.
The next best alternative is for them to be able to
talk and pray and share via a closed Forum for the
small group leaders alone.
