Hi all. I am working on a D7 site and trying integrate the Rules 2.x module to create an expiration date for a node. I have tried working through the Rules 1.x tutorials and documentation and am really struggling. Example, R1.x tutorial explains how to create a trigger but R2.x has nothing called trigger.
Does anyone know of any tutorials or documentation? I am quite frustrated at this point!
Thank you,
Landon

Rules Scheduler
You will need Rules Scheduler to accomplish this – combined with the "reaction rules" that are the Drupal 7 name for triggered rules.
The Rules 1 tutorials has a few episodes on rules scheduler (see signature for link). Most of the stuff can be quite easily translated to Drupal 7, but not all of them.
I want to create a screencast series for Rules 2, but there is so much I want to do. One day.

Well, I owe you beers for the existing screencasts and more beers in the future. I don't know why I am finding it hard to wrap my head around.
Thanks!
Modules that rules work with?
I would be so grateful if you if you could kindly post a list of modules supporting rules. Also, more grateful if you guide me to a tutorial that explain how to send a number of emails if for example s subscription/ content type expires within a certain interval of time. Thanks
Having a similar problem.
Having a similar problem. I've been trying to add a way to unpublish a node of a certain type, whose author is of a certain user role, after 60 days from its publication. I've read all the tutorials I could find on this matter. I know about the scheduler and I know that the schedules are being set, because I can see them in the SCHEDULE pane. However, something seems to be wrong with the conditions run by the scheduled rule set, because the content never gets unpublished. I have no way of seeing what's exactly failing, though.
Any hints? If you need more information about what I tried, let me know and I'll post it here.
Use Views Bulk Operations
I had to do a similar task and used Views Bulk Operations (VBO) to do this. I created a View which lists the content that I needed to remove and then added in the Bulk Operations field with an "Unpublish" action.
VBO does not include any scheduling options but it does allow you to execute the View from drush which is a command-line tool for Drupal. I have setup the drush command as a cron job and it gets ran each day automatically.

Thank you, Akoepke. This gave me an idea, and I'm trying something like it now.
I'm finding Rules in Drupal 7
I'm finding Rules in Drupal 7 to be unusable. Things that were so simple to in D6 just don't seem to work in D7.
For example, I try to create an action triggered on Cron Maintenance for Node type. When I get to node type it requires a Data selector the only option is site:current-user:roles: which does not seem make sense.
Is there a new tutorial or resource for re-learning this tool?
Sorry for the rant.

Explanation + sympathies
Yes, Rules 2 is (in some ways) more complex than Rules 1.
I hope to record screencasts explaining how to use it in a week or two, but if someone (you?) beats me to it I'm all happy. :-) Basically all documentation about Drupal core and contributed modules is written by people who spend free time on helping others.
Updating nodes on cron runs is pretty difficult, since you need to tell Rules which nodes should be updated. When you use the trigger "existing content is updated", there is a node object provided by the trigger – but on cron runs you only have the "global" site information available.
I would suggest one of the following two approaches:
I hope this can be of some help. Good luck!

Connection problems. Sorry.
Same problem...
So, so create a Scheduled event in Rules with D7, you have to create a component to schedule. When you go do components there is no change field, but there is an unpublish that I could work with I guess... so I click through with that, then it asks for data type and I have no workable options...
take two, I try to make a scheduled rule when my content type is created... great, I get to node created, node is of type, umm now what? Schedule a data compare umm nope no value when I go that way....
Every angle seems to be blocked... and I'm 99% sure this took me 10 minutes in D6.
Using rules to copy content between content types
I'm helping someone build a Drupal 7 site and also using this project as my foray into Drupal 7. I've had a lot of past experience with Drupal 6, but never used Rules (never had a need). So, I'm trying to figure out how to do the following if anyone has any suggestions:
The website is basically tracking events and their results. Certain teams or individuals get awards. I have a content type setup for "event results" and also separate profile style content types for teams and individuals. I want to be able to make it easy for the guy who will be entering content by making so he only has to input it once. If he puts in event results with node reference fields to be able to specify the team or individual it applies towards, I want to be able to then have a rule that will copy the results into a similar field for the node that is referenced (either individual or team).
Is this possible and/or the best way to do this?
Thanks for your help.
How do i do it ?
Hello Itangalo
In one of your above post you mentioned "Use Views Bulk Operations (or Rules Bonus Pack) to load a list of nodes defined by Views."
My first question...is it possible to create members/users select-list to be used for reference in the comment form of a content type ?
My other question is how can one make field values (cck field created in comment form of a content type) accessible to rules ?
Here is my link to the support request i made http://drupal.org/node/1478658 and a link to the topic i created in this group http://groups.drupal.org/node/216434
Thanks for your time....
