The July meeting of the San Diego DUG is happening on Wednesday July 13th at the Hall of Champions in Balboa Park.
This month we have Chuck Phillips from Digitaria talking about "How Updating Drupal Modules Can Get You Fired" Here's an exerpt from the presentation description...
Almost daily we read about hacker groups gaining access to user records via simple exploits. Thankfully, Drupal developers and administrators benefit from a large community of competent security professionals that scrutinize Drupal core as well as contrib modules. Security updates are released regularly and we as developers/administrators have the responsibility of patching our installations with the latest security updates. Unfortunately, this process is not bulletproof. In this session, I'll discuss the risks of doing blind updates to core and contrib modules and what we, as a community, can do to make this process less painful in the future.
After we hear from Chuck we'll do a couple basic site demos and teardowns. We'll pick something that looks interesting to the group from this list so if you're interesting in volunteering a site for one of these, post your links on that page.
Next, we'll get into some lighting talks...
Lightning talks give anyone (and I mean anyone - you, the person next to you and the one across the room) the chance to discuss a recent Drupal thought, observation, or experience that takes five minutes or less to talk about. You can teach us something, wonder out loud why X doesn't work like you think it should, or ask questions about some Drupally thing you're struggling to understand. The only rule for Lightning Talks is that you're going to be stopping at five minutes whether you're done or not. Other than that's it's fair game, so step up and have fun!
Newcomers are always welcome, bring any of your friends that might be interested in learning about Drupal. We hope to see you on Wednesday at the Balboa Park Hall of Champions.
