I would like to notify people who have subscribed to a node, only when a specific field has changed.
The simplest way to do this that I am aware of would seem to be with Rules.
Are any subscription / notification modules which are compatible with Rules?

Mass Messaging
We have build exactly for this use case a new module (Mass Messaging). With this module you can send mass mails by rules.
The selection of recipients is done over views. The sending can be triggered then by rules. It is reliable and can be used for near unlimited number of reciepents. The sending itself is done by cron.

I am still using Drupal 6, and would also like to be able to allow anonymous users to receive updates.
Our site is a lost and found site, and the goal would be to let anyone be notified when the lost or found item status has changed.
