UPDATE: Please see all the details posted below

A late post, I know but we'll be having our usual monthly meetup at the ABC again. I'll post all the details a bit later. I'm looking for a presenter (or 2) if someone is ready to volunteer. Signup for the latest details and a reminder.

Last month's meetup went great. We had a good size crowd even with DrupalCamp being only 2 days away.

Last month we were not able to get to the support session, so this month we're going to have a no-holds-barred support bonanza. Bring all your questions, confusions, problems (and tricks, tips, notes) to share with everyone. Bring your laptops (and internet if you have it) and be ready to share your enlightenment and expand your knowledge.

We will be aiming to take better advantage of the balcony this month, so please bring drinks + snacks!

Sign Up!
When: Thursday, November 20th
Time: 7pm - 9pm (Show up around 6:45!!)
Venue: ABC Centre 700 Harris Street, Ultimo ( Map | Directions )

The ABC Centre has some security issues, so it is important that people arrive early and sign in at the security desk so that James can take everyone into the building at once. Everyone just waits and chats in the lobby, so just look around for us if you're new. If you have problems you can call either of us. Many thanks go to the ABC for providing this venue.

Agenda:

  • Greetings and Welcome new people + Announcements
  • Support Session
  • Break (on the balcony)
  • Support Session
  • Session Debrief + move to pub

Remember to sign up, and I'll send out a reminder announcement a day before the meeting with all the latest details. This will also help us plan numbers/audience.

Other Details

Venue:
According to James: "Parking is possible at parking meters around thomas street and mary-anne street. But they take a 2 hour max i think. There are carparks behind the abc $15 (enter from thomas street, but on the chinatown side)"

Future Presentations:
- See http://groups.drupal.org/node/15140
- What can you present on?

I think this would be a good

theneemies's picture

I think this would be a good opportunity to trial a clinic/QA session, which was initially proposed by @gpdinoz a few meetings ago. The rough idea is for more experienced Drupallers to help others troubleshoot their specific questions. We should schedule 20 - 30 minutes for this, and have mini-break out sessions where folks 'buddy up' to get some Drupal help.

If this sounds like it would be useful for you, and you have questions in mind, please post here (or if the node can be converted to a Wiki, that might be better).

It may be all we do.

Seeing that we have no presentations yet we may have 2 hours of personal tutoring.

Beauty!!

stevelyne's picture

That would be very appealing to me. Although I think we planned to do that in September along with the stuff on Views. But we didn't get much for time for it. Coming from Tamworth would be very worthwhile if I could sit next to an experienced user and work out a few things. And I'd be very happy to shout at the pub after!!

Help Wanted

stevelyne's picture

I'm looking at taking on a job for a car sales company who already has a website but their current designer is no longer available. I can do all they want in Drupal except one feature that they currently have and want to maintain. The client's link to their "used cars section" is actually to a third party site with whom they list all of their used cars. Currently this third party site appears as if it is part of the client's site. It all appears below their banner (the third party site obviously have a page dedicated to my client to which they link directly). To see what I mean look at http://www.woodleys.com.au/motors/used/index.asp

Not sure how this is done. Is there a module that does this?

If someone could tell me, or could even sub-contract this part of the project if it is beyond me, I would be interested in taking the trip down from Tamworth, or speaking with you directly (which would be cheaper!).

Thanks in advance,

Steve Lyne

Hi. A clinic would be perfect for me; I could certainly use the help. One request regarding this; could we do the clinic first so it doesn't fall off the end as it did last time? I do need some assistance regarding access control and multi-site set up which I haven't been able to work out from the drupal forums. More specifically:

I have begun to explore Taxonomy Access Control so by the time we meet I may have worked it out, but it does appear to be a little complex. I am currently using D6. When I was developing in D5 I used a module called Forum Access.... oh, I see they've just released a Beta for D6. Even so I think TAC would be good to master for the content access side of things.

Originally, I was going to run one site but now I think I need two. However, I think that I need them to be interrelated with some users being able to access a section of the other site. Alternatively, certain users from both sites might be able to access a third site which might (or might not be) easier. In any case, I'm a bit lost with setting up a multi-site with a sub-domain.

I'd also be interested in a

I'd also be interested in a discussion on access control. I am currently restricting access by putting a menu to the pages I want restricted into a block and restricting access to the block, which is easy. But I'd like to do it directly to a page or node so that that page appears in the main menu or not, depending on the login. Is this a views issue? Anyway, I'd find that topic helpful too.

Try Content Access module

Check out Content Access module. It allows you manage permissions for content types by role and author.

Very useful

Oops!!

Double Help!! In setting up the accesses I have somehow disabled the log in block from showing up. It now looks like I can't login at all. Is there a way around this (like typing in a url that calles up the login???). Surely its not possible to lock yourself out this way permanently....is it?

Steve

OK...so I panicked

The answer is example.com.au/user.

Phew!

Would really appreciate any help here

re Drupal 5.12
1) webforms - how to:
a) display the values the user (not logged in) entered on the "Confirmation message or redirect URL: " section
b) How can user print a copy of the COMPLETED form at their end. (Printer friendly copy prints a blank form)

2) How to show one form for aussie anonymous users and another for say US users - show form based on IP address. What code and where exactly to put it (no php skills so need copy and paste stuff.)

3) I have many "page not found" in Google webtools but these refer to pages that no linger exist - I have deleted them. What happens in the database when one deletes a page? Is there some way to "pack" (remove all deleted records) in the drupal database.

4) With the logs - I have "Discard access logs older than: 3 days" but its taking no notice - have 18 pages already!!! How can I manually get rid of the excess.

5) Can we please have some background of sitemaps with panels and in general. Does sitemaps in any way control what Google does or does not index.

Thanks a ton
Carol

1 a. Dont really know about

gollyg's picture

1 a. Dont really know about webforms, is there not a built in mechanism for displaying a thankyou page? If so have a look at the code to see which variables are available on that page
b. What about print stylesheets in your css - avoid the need to have a print-friendly page

  1. geo-IP address testing is not always reliable, but you need access to a database of IP address/locations. Again, haven't really done anything in this area but i imagine there is an api around for it and possible a module to do the lookup. But do be careful with it, you don't want to make any critical decisions based upon the results.

  2. When you delete a node, it is deleted from the database. Final. You might want to use a module to send google the correct response headers to tell them that the content has been removed permanently. This will help google update more quickly. These is a module for this type of thing - will try to look it up later. If you want to temporarily remove content you should really unpublish it - this stops users without permissions from accessing the content, but it is still available for your records and can easily be added back to the site. Dont delete content without being sure it is what you want to do.

  3. You need to be running cron.php regularly to update/purge the logs

For Drupal 5

theneemies's picture

1a) The following code in your confirmation message should provide some rudimentary results. Authenticated users should have View Own Submissions enabled in User Access Control:

<?php

global $user;

$webform_nid = 1;

$submission_id = db_result(db_query("SELECT max(sid) FROM {webform_submissions} WHERE nid = %d AND uid = %d", $webform_nid, $user->uid));

$_SESSION['return_url'] = 'node/' . $node->nid;

header('Location: ' . url('node/' . $webform_nid . '/submission/'.$submission_id));

?>

4) I think I remember having a similar issue. In phpMyAdmin/SQL, you can:

TRUNCATE watchdog;

5) There are two sitemap modules:

http://drupal.org/project/gsitemap for Google indexing
and http://drupal.org/project/site_map a user-oriented visual sitemap

Location?

Hi,

I was trying to figure out where this event is. Where is ABC?
I just stumbled on this group page and I'd like to see what other Sydney Drupal Developers are up to.

Meeting Notes

rcross's picture

I have attached the notes from our meeting last night. Hopefully everyone found it useful. Please provide feedback on whether you found this format useful? prefer formal presentations? still want something else?

Also note, we decided that we will not have an official Drupal Meetup for the month of December. People are welcome (and encouraged) to organize an informal meetup at a pub or dinner somewhere, or anything else people feel like doing. Just post it to the group page.
