It's a week before the preuvenemint, so that sounds ok. Did someone check if there are other big web conferences around that time of the year? Personally I think three days of conference (and one coding day) would be better to keep the quality high.
The dates sound OK, but I don't know wether we should aim for four or five days. The DC Drupalcon spans four days and generally cons held in the US attract more attendants.
As we all agreed upon in Breda last Friday I have contacted the 'Congres Centrum' we talked about. Other dates are possible as well. But according to what I remember of the discussion and some other facts as mentioned by Frits Hoff (Kennismakelaar.info) the days before the weekend of Saturday august 22 and Sunday august 23 and the weekend itself in 2009 would be great.
In our conversation by phone today Bert mentioned that Sunday is optional. The DrupalCon in DC is from Wednesday march 4 till Saturday march 7 2009.
So, Bert, maybe you should offer Wednesday till Saturday as an option?
19/20/21/22
Please, also react if you think it should be earlier in august or later in September.
I just called for some additional information. From the 18th untill the 21th of August is the Inkom. That's when the new students have their introduction in Maastricht. On these days, the city will be seeded with students. They also have a party in the MECC on one of the days.
I don't know if this will conflict with DrupalCon.. There will be a lot of students in town but I'm afraid their minds are set on beer instead of Drupal ;)

i though we could -like the szeged con- use the las day as a complete unconference with no program at all but have some room for working out ideas together, code sprints and other drupal related stuff. the closing will be on saterday, the sunday will not have the auditorium.
Fares will indeed be lower in september, and maybe some people will be on holidays/abroad/traveling during their summer holiday.
Early september sounds better, hogeschool & university only starts mid september in Belgium, don't know about other countries.
But heck, Maastricht in august sounds better than somewhere soutern of Italy early september :-)

i like the 20 -23 august
i like the 20 -23 august option
the only (minor) drawback i see for this option is the availability of the cheap rooms in the university guesthouses (they will be let by then).
let's research further if there are any conflicting events locally, globally or virtually
as for the number of days (4 or 5): i suppose we can draw a larger crowd if the conference is shorter

4 days of conference and one
4 days of conference and one of code sprint/unconference is ideal (like Szeged).
also, it would be ideal to have the conference on/after sep 7 since airfares go down at end of summer (US Labor day is sep 7).
I think that most students
I think that most students will be unable to attend the con if it's being held in September. That's why I vote against it.

Shame...
I prefer dates later on in August as this cuts through summer activities too much for me.
yes we understand
however, there were overlaping activities that made us choose these dates.
