From the Call for FOSDEM participation.
We offer large projects a devroom during the conference. A devroom is a room in which projects can organize their own schedule made of presentations, brainstorming and hacking sessions. Our goal is to stimulate developer collaboration and cross-pollination between projects, and as such we strongly favor projects with similar goals and domains to host a devroom together.
Will drupal have its dev room again as last year?
Deadline for devroom & stand requests: November 22, 2008 (thats quick huh)
According to the call for participation FOSDEM takes place in Brussels, Belgium on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 February 2009

Organizing the devroom
Last year was indeed a great succes!
We are in contact with the Fosdem organization to try to get a devroom reserved for Drupal.
If you (or anybody) has a proposal for a certain main-subject for the talks, that might be intesting.
We might try to focus on "accessibility" or "internationalization issues" or "optimization of drupal sites", etc ... Any other idea's or proposals ?
not sure about a main topic
Not sure that a main topic would be possible to be set for a diverse number of people who could possibly present.

This year I might finally be able to make it to FOSDEM :)
I could probably do a presentation on optimization, i.e. improving Drupal's page loading performance (I've written about that before and I'll be doing my bachelor thesis on this topic).
I'll let you know if the FOSDEM dates are possible for me (they might conflict with my exam period).
I plan to attend and can
I plan to attend and can help, but probably won't have time to be the main organizer. Anyone willing to take the lead?

I can reserve some time to organize it.
First step would be to get the DevRoom reserved for Drupal. A request is in preparation, but the more cool ideas we have, the bigger our chances to get it :-)
Can I write that you are willing to give a presentation, Dries , That might give our request a boost ;-)

jo has sent the request for a devroom this week.
on november 30 the FOSDEM organization will announce which projects get a devroom
Fingers crossed! :-)
Fingers crossed! :-)
Would people be interested
Would people be interested in a talk about Taxonomy? E.g. why it differs from a regular categorisation system, what functions Drupal core offers to manipulate it, what modules are available to browse, apply and manipulate it. I regularly see people (often novices, but also the more experienced users) struggle with Taxonomy ant not knowing what possibilities there are.
Awesome
I think that's a really great idea. You might also include a small timeline as to how taxonomy evolved throughout different Drupal versions, why taxonomy was renamed to "Categories" in Drupal 5 and "Taxonomy" again in Drupal 6.
Nice idea
I've noticed recently on several sites taxonomy being left out, with various fields and views used instead, where it would have worked really nicely.
We have a DevRoom on Sunday!
Yeah! We have a Devroom on Sunday 9:00-17:00h.
I will create an Event, so people can start subscribing if they plan to come, and we will create a wiki to get some ideas for the presentations.
Success!
The FOSDEM crew just let us know our proposal was accepted!
Success!

Great news. Once we figured out how people can submit session proposals and who is in charge of selecting them, I'll post the call for sessions on my site (like I did the previous years).

We're meeting online this afternoon to get things sorted out.
2 devroom proposals were send in parallel; but I'm happy the fosdem-team got us in contact, so we can make sure we only get 1 presentation schedule. :-)
In this wiki you may propose
