Is there any plan to integrate some of the 7.x features in the 6.x version? I'm still not comfortable migrating to 7, but would love some of the newer layout features etc..

There are no plans right now
There are no plans right now to move features back to the 6.x version, mostly because of of lack of time and I'm really focusing myself on 7.x. However, if anyone steps up and offers to maintain the 6.x-2.x branch which I recently opened for just multigroup support and wants to backport stuff, I gladly give that person rights to commit.

@mwoodwar: I can't really see a reason for still stucking on d6. d7 is already a huge improvement of options and there is nothing I miss from d6 now. Did you really took time to compare deeply? Some things are not that obvious. Like typical for drupal.org :)
