We're shopping around for a web host to use in a new project, particularly one that understands Drupal 7 and its requirements. Am particularly concerned that although my Drupal site runs well on my local machine, it is almost impossibly slow on shared hosting environments.
Our team is currently trying a VPS host. (we purchased one month only to test deploy my site.) Unfortunately, it's still slow. And the current VPS host is not familiar with Drupal modules (such as Memcache and Varnish) that would supposedly help speed up the site.
My question: Would anybody know of a Metro-Manila-based web hosting company that has a good track record hosting Drupal 7 sites for its clients?
It would also be great if the web host knew how to deploy Apache Solr.
I prefer a locally-based host because I like being able to actually talk to tech support during office hours, if ever there's an issue... instantly and in Tagalog! We used U.S. hosts for years and never liked how slow it was to get answers to my issues, just because of the time and culture differences.
Btw, as an alternative to cPanel, we prefer using Webmin as our back end---all the functionality of cPanel, but no monthly licensing fees.
Thanks and regards to all.

I am using www.ploghost.com
I am using www.ploghost.com for one of my websites. It's a Metro-Manila-based company with office in Makati. You can ask them if they can provide you with Drupal-specific webserver features like Memcache and Varnish.
My website hosted by them is not Drupal-built, though. Good luck!
Wow zat vas qveek
Thanks @borrico1965!
Will check them out.
Other suggests welcome.
Probably not on a shared hosting
@ molave - I think, you are on the right track on using a VPS server, shared hosting account will not install Memcache or Varnish just for you ( your lucky if you've find one).
Your can go on dedicated server (expensive) or on a VPS with enough CPU speed and RAM (memory). You can install varnish or memcache in your VPS on your own or probably any software, extension you want to.
If you are using CentOS or Redhat VPS, installation of Varnish can be achieved by issuing the following command :
1.) To use the varnish-cache.org repository, run
rpm --nosignature -i http://repo.varnish-cache.org/redhat/varnish-3.0/el5/noarch/varnish-release-3.0-1.noarch.rpm2.) Install Varnish
yum install varnishTake a look on documentation here - > https://www.varnish-cache.org/installation/redhat
Thanks.

Much appreciated instructions to install Varnish on CentOS
@ danreb, thanks for the great advice. Sorry for the delayed reply. Curiously, Drupal Groups has no notifier of new content on the Drupal member dashboard, unlike the module issue queues.
Yes, as a matter of fact, I have been looking to install Memcache and Varnish. Your instructions for Varnish saves me a whole lot of time. My host uses CentOS, too, so it's just what I need.
I just discovered Drupal's private messaging system while writing this post.... I'd like to continue this discussion there if that's okay, as I'm interested in your VPS hosting offer.
Cheers-
Adjust Messaging and Notifications Settings
@molave, actually you can adjust messaging and notification of new posts and / or comments to posts by changing the default settings at Messaging and Notifications Settings found in your account, so that you get notified immediately. You can do that by following these steps:
1. Log-in at www.groups.drupal.org using your www.drupal.org account.
2. Edit your account by clicking Edit at your user account page or go to this link:
http://groups.drupal.org/user/399034/edit3. Scroll-down to Messaging and Notifications Settings
4. Go to Default send interval and choose Immediately
5. Click Save
6. You can also choose to Autosubscribe and Automatically enable notifications for any groups that I join, if you want to. Then click Save again.
I hope this helps you. Regards.
Another topic, another thread.
@molave - email sent.. and about the Private messaging system, you can open a new topic about that, AFAIK we have a rule here to open a new thread for every specific topic so that we can easily track it and to allow also our fellow Drupalist to answer you if they have the expertise about that particular topic.

I am at the stage now with my host http://wembassy.com that i am looking for a few beta users. Let me know if you may be interested.
@borrico - yes your post
@borrico - yes your post helps, so no more need to visit Drupal groups explicitly just to keep up. Thanks for the instructions.
@danreb - separate threads for separate topics would indeed be better, to help with discovery and all that.
@cmcintosh - perhaps in a couple weeks, thanks. Plate kind of full at the moment.
