I recently posted over here http://drupal.org/node/337797, about a different approach to themeing in Drupal. I wanted to get the opinion of this group, because it is comprised of everybody that would potential be using this concept.
I vote for really hammering out all the ideas, before beginning and not rushing this if you think this is a good idea, or at least the beginning of a good idea. So long story short, I'm thinking Drupal 8.
A lot of you guys have more experience with Drupal themes then I do, so I would really value your opinions and thoughts on the subject.

On-site theme file editing
A small (or maybe not so small) thing I'd love to see would be to edit theme files in the browser, via a text area, like Wordpress. It sounds like a silly thing, but even as a full time Drupal themer, that would've been handy a million times.
Not everyone has a development environment, version control, etc system set up, and an editor like that would be great as we move away from having to move files back and forth to your web server anyway.

security concerns...
This is the whole "don't let your webserver write to files that your site can execute" issue. If someone can do this they can pwn your server :(
If you use a theme engine like Smarty or somehow limit the tags that can be executed in theme templates then this is a possibility again, but not until then, I think.
