Hey Indy Drupalers! We did a vote on the next meetup and January 12 won the majority. We're going to be discussing using CVS for Drupal updates and meeting at Promethius Consulting. If you would like to get in on this and the potential of a CVS vs. SVN discussion, sign up!! There will also be other topics up for discussion. Last meetup, we had 2 "rookie Drupal presenters" start discussions on Theming with Zen and local XAMPP setup. It seemed to get some really good response. Post here if you have an idea for discussion, or would like to take a crack at presenting on a topic.
The Indy Drupal Group consists of a variety of users on different levels of involvement, so what ever your interest - there's room for you in our group! We had a great meeting last time, many new people, and many more looking forward to the next one. Come and join us!

I'm really looking forward
I'm really looking forward to the CVS/SVN discussion. I use SVN every day but want to know more.
I've recently done something with the Forms API that was pretty cool. Maybe next month I'll put something together to show.
Awesome!
Topics I'm looking at covering...
building Drupal Core from CVS
installing modules/themes from CVS
Upgrading via CVS
Depending on time building a CVS server on your webserver so you can checkout your drupal install to your desktop/local webserver, edit it, and then dump it back on your server. Allowing you to test locally then push it live.
I do cheat with my index.php file to help make some of this easier as well, so I will just show what I do via PHP.(basically just a forward)

Local host vote
Hey seth, just wanted to voice my interest in using CVS to test on your local machine and push it live. Right now this is the main topic of the meetup. Unless some one else had an idea for discussion, I'm going to have a short presentation planned in case the conversation runs dry. This has already gotten a lot of discussion in the group, so I think it could deserve as much time as needed.
Presentation
You asked for it, you got it....
My presentation is going to show you how to download drupal/modules/themes via CVS.
Then create an SVN server and set it up to allow you to checkout your live webserver to your test webserver.
How to then edit files and push back up to your webserver.
Hopefully in the near future I can create a screencast of how to do this.
Are you ready?!
Oh and just an FYI this will all be done in ubuntu but the commands should remain the same no matter what platform you use.

Which Repository?
I've used 2 repositories.
I'm a big fan of unfuddle.com , but I'm also familiar with projectlocker.com
Will you be using either in your demonstration?
- DV
If any one has any questions about this topic, now is the time to ask. The more your know going in to the meetup, the more your'll learn from it.
Fire away! Seth and myself would be happy to get you the answers you need.

Dinner before
Anybody want to grab a some grub before the meeting? I don't know the area very well and I'm open for suggestions.

Some restaurants in the area
@indytechcook - Sorry, I won't be able to meet up before the meeting, but there are a few places to find some grub by the meeting location. Michigan street has McDonalds at 96th street. North on Michigan there is BurgerKing, Applebee's, etc. South on Michigan there is Arby's, Stake N' Shake, Texas Roadhouse, Panda Express, etc.
Pizza at the meeting?
I believe that we will have pizza at the meeting. The one time I assumed we wouldn't we ended up having it after all.
Maybe Tony OR Aaron can confirm this for us?
- DV
Affirmative on the pizza
We will be providing pizza this evening. Please sign up as attending if you want food, so we have the right amount.
Thanks!
Free DrupalCon DC tickets...
Hello All,
It was a great first meeting for me, even though it was crazy cold outside (after the meeting, of course)!
I got to thinking about everyone who hasn't been blessed with a job where a boss might just deliver a golden ticket to you to go to DrupalCon DC... While I can't convince the boss to sponsor anyone (times are tough) I can offer this little tidbit I found while doing the nightly stroll through Planet Drupal.
They are giving away tickets and working with sponsors to support anyone wanting to come to DrupalCon but can't. Now is the time to speak up. Maybe if you get sponsored you can tell your fabulous employers that you will be getting an amazing learning experience FOR FREE, not bad in this economy, just for one week's worth of time.

Check that forum post out and then write a paragraph or two about why you're the best candidate. Be sure to include the fact that you want to give back to the community (those are the people they love to sponsor) and be sure to do it when your ride is paid for... It's now or never, gentleman and lady (I'm looking at you Becky-who-has-gone-before-but-wont-go-again).
We all have something to offer this community that has given us so much. I'd hate to see anyone from the IndyDrupal Group not go just because it costs too much.
