Lightning Talks

Everyone is welcome and encouraged to present for 10 minutes on a topic of their choosing. You may show off your Drupal site, ask some questions of the audience, give a module demonstration, share some marketing ideas for Drupal, and so on. Just keep it brief. No expertise or planning required - just do it.

Dinner

After the meetup, some of us will continue the conversation over dinner at MIT's Muddy Charles Pub. We will likely pre-order some dinner so it meets us there. We'll take a count about half way through the meeting.

Please plan on bringing $10 to participate in pre-ordering food and some drinks. If you would like to sponsor dinner, comment below and organizers will reach out. You will be recognized at the meeting as well as given the chance to do a featured talk.

I like to present a small demo on OpenScholar http://www.drupalcampnyc.org/sessions/automating-openscholar-one-stop-so...

The Demo will include:
1) Admin/Registrar adds a class, sets price & registration dead line.
2) Instructor logs in, associates his LinkedIn account and the system pulls the instructor's picture & bio from LinkedIn
3) Instructor adds class materials to his class
4) Student searches the course catalog using Filters & pays for the class. System gives the student access to the class materials.
5) Instructor Records his lecture using screen recording software, system publishes the video on instructor's site, tags the video with the terms generated from Speech to Text process and notifies the students.
6) Admin adds parent to the class & parent can view the student's activity in the class (view the comments made by the student on the lecture)

New to the area / Sponsorship

bbenone's picture

Hi guys,

The company I work for, BioRAFT, is settling in to the Boston area and setting up our first development office in Cambridge. We are Drupalers and new to the area and figured what better way to make friends than to sponsor dinner?? Can someone contact me to let me know how that works?

Also, I'd love to give a quick lightening talk about our product and how we've used Drupal as a web application framework.

Thanks!
-Ben

LIghtning Talks, etc.

Hi Ben. Welcome to the Boston area.

The Boston Drupal User's group meets on the first Tuesday of each month at MIT in room 145 of Building E51, a.k.a. the Tang Center. The entrance to Tang is a block away from Memorial Drive on Wadsworth St. at the intersection with Amherst St. Click here for a map. You can usually find parking in the Hayward St. lot about a block away.

Ordinarily to give a lightning talk you just tell whoever's running the meeting (usually Moshe) at the beginning of the meeting. However, for the next few months the meeting format is a little different than usual due to the "Boston Initiative", which is an effort to help people understand Drupal core.

I'd also like to let you know about the Drupal Self-Help Group that meets in Robbins Library in Arlington Center every other Thursday, except that this Thursday all the Robbins meeting-rooms were booked, so we're meeting about a block away. Arlington Center is a 1/2 hour bus ride from Harvard Sq.

The Drupal Self-Help Group is intended for Drupalers of all different levels to bring any problems they're having and hopefully find someone who can point them in the right direction. We'd be happy to have you and any other BioRAFT people attend.

Thanks!

That's great.. thanks so much for the information. Hopefully as we settle into the area here we will become regulars at both events.

Tues. 12/6 Meetup Reminder

bryanhirsch's picture

Boston Drupal User Group meetup agenda for Tuesday, 12/6:
Boston Initiative 6:30 -7:30
Lightening talks 7:30-8:30
Dinner sponsored by BioRAFT 8:30 - ? at the Muddy

I just wanted to remind people about tomorrow's Boston Drupal User Group meetup. Tomorrow will be the third meetup leading up to Drupalcon Denver where we spend the first hour on the Boston Initiative, learning about and contributing to Drupal Core. During the second hour we'll do 5-10 minute lightening talks. After the meetup many of us head over to the Muddy Charles Pub for pizza and beer. Big thanks to BioRAFT for generously offering to sponsor dinner.

For people interested in participating in the Boston Initiative, please try to arrive a little before 6:30 so we can get started on time.

Are the Boston meetups being recorded and posted online?

I live in Portsmouth NH and will be unable to make these meetups for at least the next few months. Having them recorded and posted online would be very helpful to me.

Thanks and best regards,

Bob

Lightening?

"Lightening talk"? Is that sort of like a weight-loss talk? :-)
