Last meeting 1/12: one of our biggest ever! Thanks in large part to the brothers-Dudenhofer! CONGRATS: James Moriarty & Neil Hastings! Winners of the O'Reilly Lullabot book : "Using Drupal" Looking forward: Should we shoot for a 1/26 meetup? If so, what should we discuss? Do we need to take a step back and cover some more common Drupal topics like taxonomy, path auto, user permissions, user profiles... etc??? What do you want [or NEED] to hear about? Let's talk about it.
Here are some ideas on how we can accomplish every one's goal.
(a) Some one suggested taking one of the monthly meetings and keeping it simple allowing peoples brains to ache on the other meeting day of the month.
(b) Another suggested breaking the room into two groups and giving options. [I'm not sure I like this idea, AND do we have room at Promethius to have 2 separate groups at the same time?]
(c) Should we take a Saturday and have a Drupal Hack Fest again? We could use the Broadripple meeting room again and it could be a free for all. Want to rehash updating to the newest Drupal release via CVS? Want to cover CCK and/or Views again? Want to tackle multimedia in Drupal? Want to cover some custom module development? We could just keep the doors open for 4 hours and people can come and go as they please asking OR answering questions as we help each other out. No real presentation; just people breaking up into temporary groups as the need arises and we lend each other a hand.
(d) Got an idea? Respond to this thread and let us know...

The Indiana Drupal Users group is off to an awesome start for 2009! Thank you to you all for participating.
I'll have more books in February. [side note: Have an idea for a sponsor? talk to them yourself OR get me the contact info. I'm always looking to benefit the group in as many ways as possible. The cash support from www.brauerranch.com along with the heavy discount at www.Oreilly.com has really helped us out. I have some more sponsorship ideas I'm working on. Please pass any ideas along that you might have.

A hackfest sounds like fun, and since it'd be on a non-Monday, I can actually make the trip down!

We have one fan for the Saturday Drupal HackFest!
How about Jan 31st at noon? I'm thinking do it in broadripple in the training room of problogservice.com once we pick a date and time I'll confirm the venue availability and wrangle up a sponsor for pizza if I can.

Who's game for Jan 31 noon to ?whenever? for some free-styling Drupal education? Bring your projects and your laptop and get your questions answered!

Saturday! I could do that, especially for hackfest.

Sounds interesting. I'm in for the 31st.

Using Drupal book is good. Much more interesting a read then Pro Drupal Development. They are both very different books though. I recommend reading Using Drupal first, then Pro Drupal Development after. It's filling in some of the holes in my knowledge since I skipped the whole learning about Drupal and went directly into developing Drupal.

Hackfest sounds good

Tanisha's picture

I have to work that day til 2pm but if folks are still hanging around after that I would love to make an appearance and catch on to a thing or two.

I definitely will not be able to make the Monday meeting for a while since I work evenings primarily on Mon and Fri. As soon as I'm able to attend, I will be there though. Just keep scheduling them.

Anyhting Closer to evansville

cmcintosh's picture

Anyone know of any groups meeting closer to evansville. Would be great to get a southern indiana meeting going if there is not one currently.

+1 Hackfest

Hackfest sounds good to me. Had a good time at the last one, even though there weren't many people there. Saturday sounds like a good change up for those who haven't been able to make the Monday meetings.

I'll be there with bells on.

Figurative bells, mind you, but bells...

Future Meetup Idea

+1 on the HackFest

But does that mean no Monday Meetup?

I'd love to go over (for upcoming meeting) how to correctly use form_alter as implemented in a really stripped down module. So often my clients are faced with some seriously overwhelming forms and I'd love to be able to "trim the fat" with a custom module. Currently, I alter forms with Jquery on page load (gasp!).

Josh (Formerly known as MasterJ__... the wife thought the username was stupid... the wife thinks my new one is stupid too, but it's the last time I'm going to change it... I love my wife...)

Hey Josh

dudenhofer's picture

We try to limit the meetups to 2x a month - so we can reserve the presentation ideas and be able to fill them regularly. So this Hackfest will take the place of the Monday meetup, but I'm hoping to get things secure for a Feb. 9th meetup. The Form_alter would be a great topic - hopefully some one could step up to cover that for us (I'm not exactly fluent in it myself).

by the way - I thought MasterJ was cool! but then again, we are a very accepting group :)

Thanks. I found an awesome lullabot article Modifying Forms in Drupal 5 and 6, and would love to go through this idea of modifying forms at a meetup. I don't know, maybe I can get a module running and start altering forms before the HackFest...

Hook_form_alter is an

Hook_form_alter is an extremely effective way of modifying many forms that are included in drupal and also modules. This can give you quite a bit of flexibility.

I would love to come, I am

I would love to come, I am the local Drupal Expert for the Evansville area. If i could get some directions/time/any fees that I need to have handy it would be great.

Please do come!

dudenhofer's picture

Hey Chris! Here's some directions Map . Doug should be posting the finalized time for the Hackfest when he finalizes the space, and -- No Cost! the only possible expense would be if we decided to throw in on pizza, but there are also a number of food joints around, so there's that option as well. It'd be great to have you join us!

Hey thanks for the offer. I

cmcintosh's picture

Hey thanks for the offer. I probably will end up missing the meetin at the end of the month, but will be looking forward to coming to the one after. I have the kids the same weekend as the meetup.

I have also been thinking of organizing a group for southern indiana. There is not a lot of drupal activity down here, but I would love to get a couple of guys together and grab some pizza and talk over some good coding techniques.

Thanks,
Chris

Chris, I typically make it

joshmiller's picture

Chris,

I typically make it down to the Evansville area about 4 or 5 times a year because of family time. I'd have to talk it over with the boss, but I might be able to expense the trip costs and go to your first southern indiana meeting. If not for the meeting, I'll at least try to contact you and we can hook up one of the times I'm down there next.

Sounds great. I plan on

cmcintosh's picture

Sounds great. I plan on coming to a meeting up there at least once to get how it is all ran. Then possibly start a small base to build up here as it it pretty much a desert of drupal activity where i am at. Is this the same Ecclesiastic from irc Chat?

Thanks,
Chris
