Chart style Plugin for Views Module: an unfinished project from SoC 2008 that we would like to continue in 2009

We encourage users to post events happening in the community to the community events group on https://www.drupal.org.

This project was never finished in 2008, and we would like to invite people to continue work on it in 2009 SoC.

Chart style plug-ins for Views module: http://drupal.org/node/236453

For more information about or to ask questions about this idea, see http://groups.drupal.org/node/9946.

Description
Integrate Views and Charts modules to enable users to create on-the-fly charts based on Views queries. It will enhance the student knowledge about GUI and Drupal data structures. This might also help and encourage end-users and developers on using charts as a simple and common way to display information.

Description
Views module is a on-the-fly SQL query maker. And it allows you create lists of website content and display them in numerous formats: in a table, as a bulleted list, within a calendar, etc.

Charts are a very good way to compact information and present it. Charts module let users to be chart-provider independent, creating a abstraction layer between the Drupal data and each Chart data schema.

Charts modules are covered

Charts modules are covered well in Charts Group. Check out http://groups.drupal.org/charts for some news I posted there. There are links to all the charts implementations I have run across. If you would like to add more coverage, please do. You could even post this idea there too.

This is simply an idea from last year...

This was an idea from last year that was never completed.

Mitchell- any ideas for charts based projects (or really any data visualization projects) for this year's Summer of Code?

@Alex UA: Here are a few

@Alex UA: Here are a few ideas that could implement data visualization (I can only think of these because it's very hard for generic API's to offer much more without predictable field definitions/content types):
Pedal Tracker Module could be an SOC project
Views Charts integration with Ubercart
Views Charts integration with Project and Project Issue Tracker Modules
Views Charts usability improvements - this might be the best, or maybe lots of documentation if it's already there

Graphs:
My favorite would be to have X,Y axis fields that graphed nodes onto a 2D graph. With nodereferences, you could define the relationships and have arrows going between nodes on the graphs.
