Hi everyone,
I was just wondering if you guys had any specific recommendation on any particular web hosting company that could make it easier (and affordable for a small charity website) to do a Drupal install. Just looking around I noticed that if you get into the wrong company, installing Drupal can be a nightmare.
thanks in advance for any help.
Raul

We've done a lot of research
We've done a lot of research into this and have settled on a couple of good VPS services in the USA. Equivalent AU plans exist, but generally cost about 30-50% more for much less bandwidth and RAM. Intervolve has one of the better VPS plans in AU. Unless < 50ms response times are critical, go offshore. We've also settled on 512Mb RAM as being the minimum to run a decent Drupal site smoothly.

my hosting experience
Hi, I used www.hostingshop.com.au for last few years and have great experience with those guys. Friendly, local services. They also operate DedicatedServers.net.au
For very low cost and more bandwidth - try in US, but bad support or dodgy setup can ruin your pleasure. And you may want to try Amazon EC2 hosting services for more custom experience...
Just my personal experience, I am not expert on this topic. :)

Looks like a pretty good hosting company
A mate just sent me this link, may be of interest:

some local collectives
There's a couple of local collectives I know of who do a lot of non-profit stuff along with some more commercial projects to make the finances work. These are motivated by enabling particular political goals, which might suit you depending what your charity does.

http://ecoanarchist.org/
Both of these are administered in Australia, using servers off shore.
I've also used siteground.com, which works well enough. I'm very used to having ssh access on dedicated servers, so cpanel and ftp (the cheap option) is a bit of an adjustment, but for a cheap account, I'd recommend it.
