Come on out for the last Philly PHP Meetup of 2011! We'll be discussing MVC - the Model-View-Controller pattern of software architecture that's used by many modern web frameworks and applications.
Our host and sponsor for the evening is The Institutes (http://www.aicpcu.org/)
Doors open at 6PM for pizza and networking, and presentations start at 6:30.
We'll have three 15-20 minute presentations:
- Tim Lytle will open with an overview of the fundamentals of the MVC architecture pattern and how it differs from other ways of constructing web applications. He'll also discuss using the Zend Framework as an example of MVC in PHP
- Christian Willman will take us on a temporary diversion to JavaScript. Discover how simple it is to use the MVC pattern in-browser to create flexible, maintainable, and testable JavaScript, and learn how it can be combined with PHP to create powerful single page web applications (SPAs).
- Greg Amaroso will share his experience developing modules for ActiveCollab, an MVC PHP web app along the lines of the popular Basecamp groupware app.
We'll follow that with another half hour or so of open discussion, Q&A, and general conversation. If you've got something you're working on you'd like to share, bring it along and show it off. If you're struggling with something, put it up on the screen and get some ideas and off-the-cuff troubleshooting from the crowd.
We'll wrap up around 8pm, and the hearty will venture down the road to TJ's in Paoli, home to one of the finest collections of beers on tap in the area, where topics of PHP and craft beer are equally likely.
PLEASE RSVP at http://www.meetup.com/phillyphp/events/39806022/
ALSO, if anyone's coming from the city, there's a train that leaves 30th at 5:13 gets into Paoli at 5:38 and I'd be happy to pick up anyone who wants to come. After the meetup we'll be going to TJ's which is right next door to the Paoli station, so you can catch a train immediately, or, hang as long as you like and leave when you need to. Just drop me a note if you want a lift from the train station!
