March 2009 Meet-up

Events happening in the community are now at Drupal community events on www.drupal.org.

I enjoyed meeting everyone at the Feb. meet-up and I'm really looking forward to our next gathering. Michael H. posed the question "Any ideas/agenda for the next meeting?" in another thread. I've a few ideas:

  1. Continue discussion on modules (or maybe dedicate 15 minutes per meeting to 'module of the month')
  2. Roundtable discussion on how everyone configures their drupal installs and complications they've encountered (single site or multi-site, server config, etc.)
  3. Roundtable discussion on upgrade/update strategies (continuation of discussion from last meeting where Michael demo'd his awesome upgrade module, still trying to get my mind around that code)
  4. Template showcase

Anyone else?

+1 for Templates

I'd love to swap stories about templates. I'll be making a few this week and while I'm fine at taking HTML files or graphics and making them into working templates I'd love to talk about what others do to have a lot of success with their end product. I've learned a lot of stuff I'll never do again. :-)

I'll Second That

Sorry, was just reading some school board material and forgot that I wasn't at a board meeting (that comes later this evening).

I really like a couple thoughts here...

  • Templates - Yeah, I really need to get to know them better. Got a handful of tasks already that need some attention in that regard.
  • Module of the Month - I think that's a great idea too.
  • Configuration and Deployment* - Another hot topic for me. There's a lot of "How To" information about this around the web, but I'd like to hear some "what NOT to do" thoughts too.

*Side Note: I spent this past weekend setting up a new localhost development server (Apache2triad on Windows Vista) with support for multi-site development and eventual deployment. Now that I have a bit of representative content in my existing production (really pre-production) site I'd like to bring a copy of it back down (content, modules and all) back down to the local server for some testing and continued development. I would really love to know if anybody in the group has had any experience with this kind of process.

Thanks for starting this thread CattleCall. Keep the ideas/posts coming.

I like the idea of a short module sharing session built into each meeting. How about we try this next time - http://groups.drupal.org/node/19641
