Training (free or commercial)

Hi Guys,

There will be a FREE full day training on Drupal on Windows at DrupalCon 2012 in Denver.

Topics will start from the basic deployment via WebPI on IIS 7.x and go up to the configuration of a full load balanced web farm using Application Request Routing!
There will be a lot of stuff indeed.

Attendance fees are sponsored by Microsoft and places are limited, so please register early! :-)

Here's the URL of the event at DrupalCon 2012

And here are some details:

DEPLOYING DRUPAL AT SCALE ON MICROSOFT PLATFORM

"Drupal? Windows? Are you kidding?" If that's what crossed your mind when you saw the title of this training, well prepare for some big surprises! :-)
IIS 7.5 is a great environment for PHP and Drupal! During the day you will learn how easy it is to deploy a Drupal web site on Windows Server 2008 R2, starting from the basic installation up to the creation of a highly scalable web farm with load balancing features and all the fancy stuff that you need to impress your neighbors.
We will deeply explore the IIS 7.5 platform, including URL Rewrite, WinCache for PHP which provides opcode and user data cache features, Application Request Routing, WebFarm Framework which provides reverse proxy features and AppFabric Cache for distributed cache support.
Performance? You want performance to impress your neighbors even more? So much work has been done over the years on optimizing PHP on IIS that you'll not believe your eyes.
And do you think that Windows is all about mouse and. er. Windows? Guess what, another surprise, we'll have command line tools all over the day. There's no excuse for not loving IIS if you're a Drupal head :-)
We’ll be covering a ton of ground in this deeply technical course which is vital for any Drupal developer looking to expand their opportunities.

Instructor: Alessandro Pilotti is a Red Hat certified engineer and Microsoft MVP who works as an independent consultant.

Training Sponsor: Microsoft

Thanks!

Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but I'm legitimately curious. Can you remote-access a Windows server with a CLI? If so, will standard SSH work, or would I need to use a different tool? If the latter, is said tool or a compatible equivalent available on non-Windows platforms?

Windows CLI Remote Access

Hi Garrett,

Can you remote-access a Windows server with a CLI? If so, will standard SSH work, or would I need to use a different tool?

Windows provides a powerful and advanced shell called Powershell which fully supports remote access from another host.

If you prefer to use SSH, you can install a third party server. Here's some documentation on the various available options (most of them are OSS or freeware).

beside that, you can run remote commands on a Windows server with a Microsoft tool called psexec.

Let me know if you need more info!

SQL Server?

Are you going to be covering running Drupal on Microsoft SQL Server as well?

Drupal on SQL Server

Yes, we'll cover some Drupal / SQL Server deployment, but the main focus of the training day will be on deployment tools, optimization and scalability.

Beside that, I'll be at the Microsoft boot at DrupalCon. Stop by if you have any questions about SQL Server!

Thanks

More curious than anything, given we've started using SQL Server with Drupal 7 but it seems not many other people do.
Glad to see it being covered because it's a very viable alternative to MySQL.

Unfortunately, being in Australia, I won't be making it to DrupalCon. :(

High performance
