I am looking to propose a few ideas for SoC 2009. I like the basic functionality of the Webform module that ships with Acquia, but I am wondering if an AJAXy / easy to use implementation has been developed for Drupal 6? I have searched around and cannot find an AJAX forms package for Drupal 6. I did find this same proposal in SoC 2006: AJAX Form Builder, and was wondering if something like this has been developed. Before I make a proposal on this project, I want to be sure that this does not already exist in some fashion.
I see myself helping out on the design / usability end of the spectrum with Drupal and SoC. Drupal is powerful and a clean development architecture, but I see plenty of places where the usability can be enhanced. It would be nice to have a form builder with the ease of use, elegance and eye candy of PHPform.org or Wufoo.com.
So, before I draft a detailed proposal I just want to be sure there is a need for this and I am not duplicating someone else's efforts.
Thanks for your assistance!

How about building on top of Lullabot's Form Builder?
You should take a look at this: http://www.lullabot.com/blog/drupals-form-building-future
That seems like the perfect place to start.

Exactly what I was looking for
This is exactly what Drupal needs. Lullabot has stretched the scope of the project beyond working with just webform, as I envisioned this module. They also intend to integrate CCK, Taxonomy, Menu, etc. It also seems that they want to keep tight control over the development of this module. The API is not nailed down yet and they don't seem to want too many patches / issue reports just yet. This module may be too fresh to work with for SoC.
I do have some other ideas though...
I think you have to talk to
I think you have to talk to quicksketch about anything related to this, he is working hard on this. Don't tihnk its worth perusing for GSoC beside of someone else its efforts, it is simply to big to tackle.
Submit your idea NOW!
Hi there- if you want to participate in the SoC this summer you must submit this idea NOW!
According to the Summer of Code 2009 timeline the cutoff time for student submissions is 12pm (noon) PDT
It doesn't matter at this stage what shape your proposal is in, the most important thing for you to do is post your idea to the site, you can refine it, find a mentor, etc. later. If you have any questions or problems, please feel free to contact me. However, this is Google's rule, not Drupal's, so please don't ask for an extension, because we cannot give you one.
