Hey,

I teach Drupally stuff at Oakland University, in the business school. (If you were at the Michigan Drupal Camp, I was the dude who did the WYSIWYG session.)

I've got a bright student who'll be graduating in April, with a degree in marketing. She's taken my Drupal course, and worked on a couple of sites. She's a little older, with job experience and a good work ethic.

Are there jobs that would use her marketing and Drupal skills? Or places to look for jobs. Or events she should attend. Or other advice.

Kieran

We find that knowledge (and instinct) for marketing and communication is an EXTREMELY valuable asset to have in Drupaler. It is very nearly a requirement in small, boutique firms like ours (http://djcase.com) where we need people who have broad skill sets and expertise in a number of disciplines.

I'll be giving a talk at the Denver UG meeting on a related topic - basically, "what I wish I knew when starting as a Drupal freelancer." See: http://groups.drupal.org/node/202108#comment-666028

The meetings are streamed online at http://openmediafoundation.org/ (and archived, after a delay) so she can tune in that way.

Great!

Have her drop me a line and a resume... I have many people looking for help and if you feel that she has promise I can help steer some opportunities her way...

Thanks!

Keiran,

I am the owner of a successful web design/development and internet marketing company located in the Detroit Metro area. Our company is presently seeking marketing professionals to work with us. We would love to be put in touch with your student or any other students who may be seeking work. In fact, we are being approached with more work than we can manage at the moment and need to begin hiring some more staff.

Please forward any contact details to me at contact@seriouslyweb.com. It would be a great favor to both us and your students!

Sincerely,
Eric G.
