magical experience

I like a lot Chaz's marked teaching diction, stressing things out, almost as acting through the subject. Although I feel quite motivated to grasp drupal's guts I kind of drift away and close to singing change in intonation awakes the listener up and conveys the passion. I was lead by hand through a reverse theming engineering in hands on experience, in a step by step manner.

Self paced tutoring allows to pause, broaden issues in order to understand fully before continuing on and, repeat when needed. Chaz's lecturing sounds as fresh as when first time heard, over and over again.

It is beautiful to have such an elaborate theme dissected and autopsied thoroughly. Exercise files are of much help, although I believe there is a glitch, an omission of information in Chapter 6, which caused me a fatal error restoring the database. I managed to bridge over it and continue with the exercise.

If I got to follow it through, programmers and designers will most certainly get to the marrow of it, and profit largely form this tutorial, understanding drupal's theming logic, files and folder structure. Thanks a lot Chaz!

Issue with Chapter 6

Hi Chaz,

When I use the sites folder from the exercise files in chapter 6.1 my samoca site becomes a blank white page. I can't figure out how to fix this. Is something out of date?

Enjoyable but ...

Hi,

I've enjoyed taking this course but I'm finding it pretty difficult to follow along as a regular (non-premium) Lynda subscriber. Every course prior to this (in my experience) has given me an opportunity to at least look at any relevant code files (css in this case) for long enough to create that stuff. Im just starting Chapter 7 and in the previous Chapter you had us copy "css" and "images" folders over. Naturally I can't do anything to create this theme from scratch without the files. I'm wondering ... Am I going to be able to complete this course or not?
